Pramod Madhwaraj is 10th richest state minister in India

Udupi, Aug 9: Pramod Madhwaraj, the minister for fisheries, sports and youth affairs, Karnataka is the 10th richest state minister in India, according to a report by Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR).

Mr Madhwaraj, who represents Udupi constituency in Karnataka Legislative Assembly, had entered the state cabinet through a recent cabinet reshuffle.

Son of former MLA Late Malpe Madhwaraj and former minister Manorama Madhwaraj, the Mogaveera community stalwart is the proprietor of Raj fish meal and oil company, Malpe, which is the largest manufacturer of fish meal and fish oil in India.

Mr Madhwaraj is the chairman of Canara Jewel Tex Pvt. Ltd, which runs a large mall of gold and sarees in Udupi district, called The Wedding Palace'. He is the managing partner of Coronet fish products, an exporter of canned fish. He is also the chairman of Malpe Manipal Builders.

Four from Karnataka

Interestingly, four of the country's 10 richest state ministers are from Karnataka, and 97% of this south Indian state's ministers are crorepatis. Energy minister D K Shivakumar is the second richest state minister in the country with assets worth Rs 251crore.
Labour minister Santosh Lad comes in third with assets worth Rs 186 crore. Planning minister M R Seetharam ranks sixth with assets worth Rs 136 crore and Mr Madhwaraj is in 10th place with Rs 105 crore.

Those with high assets have their liabilities too and again, Shivakumar tops this list with liabilities of Rs 105 crore, Seetharam comes in third with Rs 53 crore, Madhwaraj is fourth with Rs 44 crore and water resources minister M B Patil ranked 10th with Rs 19 crore. Patil's assets are worth Rs 40 crore.

Andhra Pradesh minister Ponguru Narayana who is the richest minister with assets worth Rs 441crore and liabilities of Rs 44 crore.

The 'poorest' minister in the country is Samajwadi Party's Tej Narayana from Faizabad constituency in Ayodhya, who has declared assets of just Rs 66,612.

ADR in a statement said it sourced the details from the affidavits filed by ministers at the time of submitting nomination papers to the Election Commission. Declarations of a total of 609 ministers out of 620 have been analysed from 29 state assemblies and two Union Territories by ADR.

Mangaluru, July 30: Medical doctor turned IAS officer K V Rajendra assumed charge as the 130th deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district here today.

The 2013 batch Karnataka cadre officer succeeds Sindhu B Rupesh, who was transferred as Director of Electronic Delivery of Citizen Services (EDCS), Bengaluru. The outgoing DC welcomed the new DC in the presence of staff. 

Dr Rajendra said that he expects cooperation from all stakeholders in administering the district, amidst the mounting Covid-19 cases.

Rajendra, an alumnus of JJM Medical College, Davanagere, was serving as the CEO of Belagavi zilla panchayat before being posted as DC of this coastal district. 

Having served as assistant commissioner of Puttur sub-division for nearly a year from December 2015, Dr Rajendra, hails from Thirthahalli in Shivamogga district, had his probationary training in Bidar. He posted as CEO of Ballari ZP where he worked for nearly three till 21, 2019.

He also had a brief stint as assistant secretary in the department of fertiliser with the ministry of chemicals and fertilisers.

Sindhu who was the CEO of Udupi zilla panchayat had succeeded Sasikanth Senthil, who resigned from the Indian Administrative Service on September 6, 2019. She had taken charge on September 7, 2019.

Udupi, Jul 16: With two deaths in a single day, and receiving coronavirus positive report of a person who died two days ago, Udupi district’s covid-19 death toll today mounted to eight. 

A-49-year-old resident of Udupi, was admitted to Ajjarkad government hospital for other ailments. He was suffering from multiple health issues like diabetes and respiratory problems.

Last night he was tested positive for coronavirus and hence he was shifted to Dr TMA Pai COVID hospital in Udupi where he breathed his last today. 

A 54-year-old man from Maravanthe in Byndoor taluk, who was suffering from asthma, today died while being taken from one hospital to the other.

He was admitted to a private hospital in Kundapur on the evening of Wednesday. Today he was being shifted to Manipal hospital. However he breathed his last half way through.  

His body was taken back to Kundapur and throat swab of the deceased was sent for testing. As the sample of the deceased person was taken using rapid test kit, his report was available within half an hour and it showed positive for covid-19. 

Meanwhile, throat swabs of a man from Ankola in Uttar Kannada district, who passed away in Manipal Hospital on July 14, were tested positive today. His funeral was held at the Beedinagudde crematorium as per the COVID norms.

Mangaluru, Jan 3: General Secretary of the All India Sunni Jamiyyatul Ulama, AP Aboobacker Musliyar Kanthapuram, visited the family members of Abdul Jaleel and Nousheen, expressed his condolences.

Jaleel, resident of Bundar Kandak and Nousheen, resident of Kudroli were killed in police firing that took place during the anti-CAA protest in the city on December 19.

Former President of the District Wakf Advisory Committee of Dakshina Kannada SM Rasheed Haji, Corporator Lateef Kandak, Congress leader N S Kareem and Ashraf Kinara, Samsuddin Kudroli were also present. 

DYFI delegation

Meanwhile, a central delegation of the Democratic Youth Federation of India also met the families of the both the victims and expressed solidarity with the kin of the deceased.

The delegation comprised of DYFI national president advocate Mohammad Riyaz, other leaders such as A A Raheem, S Satish, S K Sajeesh, legislator V K Sanoj and DYFI State present Muneer Katipalla.
