Preserve 6 bodies of those killed in AP operations: HC

Chennai, Apr 9: The Madras High Court today directed that bodies of six persons, gunned down in an encounter in the Seshachalam forests in Andhra Pradesh, be preserved until tomorrow when it will take up the matter.ap encounter

The bodies would be preserved in a mortuary in Thiruvannamalai District Headquarters government hospital, about 170 km from here.

The court's direction was in response to a petition filed by one Muniammal of Polur of Thiruvannamalai district, wife of one of those killed, which came up for hearing today before Justice M Sathyanarayanan.

She had sought conducting a re-postmortem on the body of her husband, killed in the alleged encounter by Andhra Pradesh police in the Seshachalam Forests near Tirupathi on Tuesday.

Counsel for the petitioner K Balu submitted that apart from the bullet injuries, there were cut mark injuries also on the body of Sasikumar. He further contented that chemicals were also spread on the body.

Justice M Sathyanarayanan said he would pass orders tomorrow on the petition after taking it as the first item.

He, however, said if any order of post-mortem has to be passed an FIR was must and without it, the same cannot be ordered.

The Judge said that if the Tamil Nadu government takes a decision on the FIR, the Court would not stand in the way.

Advocate General A L Somayaji submitted that government has no objection and also said that if the Court passes order on the post mortem, it will be done immediately.

The Judge said that the Court cannot pass any orders as there was no FIR and that the incident had occurred outside the Jurisdiction of this Court.

Then the AG submitted that he would submit to the Court tomorrow on the further proceedings to be taken.

After hearing, the Judge said he would take up the matter tomorrow as first item and till then directed that the bodies be kept in Thiruvannamalai District Headquarters government hospital.

Kanpur,  Jul 3: A total of eight police personnel including Deputy Superintendent of Police Devendra Mishra have lost their lives after they were fired upon by criminals in the early hours of Friday.

The incident took place when a police team had gone to raid history-sheeter Vikas Dubey's house.

Senior Superintendent of Police and Inspector General of Police have reached the spot and forensics team is examining the area.

State Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed his condolence to the families of the eight Police personnel who lost their lives after being fired upon by criminals in Kanpur. He has directed Director General of Police HC Awasthi to take strict action against criminals. He also sought a report of the incident.

Lucknow, Feb 2: In an early morning firing at Lucknow's Hazratganj, the city centre, Vishva Hindu Mahasabha state president Ranjit Bachchan was killed while he was out on a morning walk on Sunday.

Ranjit Bachchan was taking a stroll in Hazratganj in the morning when bike-borne assailants opened fire on him and killed him on the spot. The Mahasabha leader was shot in the head multiple times.

The incident took place near the CDRI building in Lucknow's Hazratganj.

In the firing, Ranjit Bachchan's brother also suffered bullet injuries. He has been rushed to the trauma centre. Ranjit Bachchan was a resident of Gorakhpur.

The early morning shootout in the Uttar Pradesh capital's central area has caused tension in the area.

Dinesh Singh, DCP Central Lucknow, said, "The body has been identified as of Ranjit Bachchan, who had gone out on morning walk when some unknown assailant shot him. A police team has been formed and further investigation is being carried out."

Before being associated with the Mahasabha, Ranjit Bachchan was a Samajwadi Party member and was often spotted with former UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav.

The Samajwadi Party has hit out at the Yogi Adityanath government over the law and order situation in the state and demanded immediate resignation of the government.

Thiruvananthapuram, Apr 22: Eleven more people tested positive for COVID-19 in Kerala with totalpositive cases in the State touching 437on Wednesday.

Two house surgeonsof the Kozhikode Medical college are among those who have tested positive for the virus.

The two had travelled outside the state,Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan told reporters.

Kannur reported seven cases, Kozhikode two, while one case each was reported from the districts of Kottayam and Malappuram.

Only one person tested negative.

The state has 127 active cases and 29,000 people are under observation, including 346 in hospitals.
