Priyank Kharge confident of Congress retaining Assembly seats

Bengaluru, Apr 25: Karnataka Minister for Social Welfare Priyank Kharge, who is also Kalaburagi district Incharge Minister today expressed confidence in Congress retaining both Chincholi and Kundagol Assembly seats after byelection on May 19.

Speaking to newsmen, after attending a meeting of the senior Kalaburagi district Congress leaders with the KPCC President Dinesh Gundu Rao here on Thursday, hesaid that "Chincholi people had voted the Congress candidate in the 2018 May assembly elections and will once again support the Congress candidate in the byelections".

Stating that the people of the Chincholi assembly seats, were well aware the byelections was caused following defection of the sitting Congress member Dr Umesh Jadhav to the BJP, he said that "People of the Chincholi taluk waiting for an opportunity to teach a bitter lesson to the BJP leaders".

Mangaluru, Jul 2: A frontline covid-19 warrior who was working in the Wenlock Covid hospital in the city has been tested positive for the coronavirus. 

Sources said that he was a pathologist working in covid testing laboratory of the Wenlock Covid hospital.

A few days ago, a senior health official had tested positive for the covid-19.

Dakshina Kannada has so far recorded deaths of 18 covid-19 patients. A total of 14,137 samples have been tested, out of which 13,040 have turned out negative, and 833 positive, including 10 persons from other districts. 372 cases are currently active.

Bengaluru, May 12: Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa had promised to extend all co-operation for the safe and early return of the Karnataka ex-pats, living in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), here on Tuesday.

He was speaking to the Karnataka ex-pats living in UAE, who had pleaded the chief minister to make arrangements for their return to the state.

Those who had spoken to the Chief Minister had informed that there is a large number of people, landed into a great difficulty ever since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and eager to return to their home state, Karnataka.

Bengaluru, May 10: Former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Sunday accused the state government of not preparing proper guidelines to bring back people who are stranded near the Karnataka-Maharashtra border areas.

"No proper guidelines have been given to officials to bring back people who are stranded near the Karnataka-Maharashtra border. From the last 45 days, many of these people have not got any relief nor are there any proper directions or guidelines from the state government," alleged Kumaraswamy.

He also accused the state government of cheating the people of Karnataka.

"Karnataka government is cheating people the same way it cheated with the flood compensation. The state government had announced lakhs of rupees as compensation to those who lost houses in the flood last year. But nobody has got the records or details as to how many people got benefited from it," he added.
Fifty-three more COVID-19 cases were reported in Karnataka on Sunday, the state government said.

The total number of cases in the state is at 847, including 405 discharged and 31 deaths so far, the bulletin said.
