Priyanka Chopra, Saroj Khan honoured at Fempowerment awards

Mumbai, Aug 29: Bollywood actor Priyanka Chopra, filmmaker Shobha Kapoor and choreographer Saroj Khan have been honoured with the women achievers awards for their accomplishments in chosen fields.

The awards, popularly known as "Fempowerment Women Achievers", have been instituted by Molecule Communications in association with Zee TV. They were presented recently.

Other women achievers to be honoured with the awards in various categories included Hetal Dave (sports), Shikha Sharma (corporate), Shaili Chopra (journalism), Gitanjali Babar (education), Priti Shroff (health and wellness), Shanoo Sharma (entertainment creative), Arohi Singh (fine arts), Anisha Singh (young entrepreneur) and S Prassanashree (literature), a release said here today.

Chhaya Momaya, Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj, Karuna Waghmare, Sapna Moti Bhavnani and Sathya Saran received special recognition awards in different categories. Sabu George was honoured with special award in a category of 'recognition to a man by women'.

The jury consisted of Ridham Desai, MD, Morgan Stanley India, Subhash Ghai, film maker, Mrunalini Deshmukh, senior lawyer, Annurag Batra, Chairman & Editor-in-Chief, Business World, Adil Malia, Global Head For Leadership, Learning & People Management, Essar Group) and Bhawana Somaaya, critic columnist and athor.

Kiren Shrivastav, Founder of Fempowerment Awards & CEO of Molecule Communications, said, I believe men and women are not equal, they are different. Hence, ours is the only awards that have a special recognition to a man by women."

Elated by the honour, Saroj Khan said, "It is always great to get acknowledged through awards and this one is more special because it is women achievers award."

Mumbai, May 17: TV actor Manmeet Grewal, who worked on shows like "Aadat Se Majboor" and "Kuldeepak", committed suicide after struggling with dwindling finances amid lockdown, family friend-producer Manjit Singh Rajput said.

Grewal, who was originally from Punjab, hanged himself on Friday night at his Kharghar residence here where he lived with his wife. He was 32.

Rajput, who had known Grewal for nearly seven years, said the actor was facing "financial crisis" and wasn't able to earn due to the lockdown. 

"He was going through a major financial issue and he was also in depression. The added pressure of not being able to repay loans amid this (no work phase) got to him. His wife is completely shocked and devastated," Rajput told PTI.

The producer said last rites of the actor were performed on Saturday. 

Grewal was working on projects like a webseries and some commercials, which were put on hold due to the nationwide lockdown amid the coronavirus pandemic.

New Delhi, May 26: As the country celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr in the testing times of coronavirus this year, megastar Shah Rukh Khan's greetings reflected of blessings from the almighty to help the countrymen sail through the tough times.

The 54-year-old actor took to Twitter to extend Eid greetings to his fans.

"May the blessings of Allah see us through these times," he wrote in the tweet.

"In the end, it's Faith that keeps us going... Eid Mubarak to all. May He shower all with love, peace and prosperity always," Khan's tweet further read.

Eid-ul-Fitr marks the conclusion of the holy month of Ramzan, which is a month of fasting and prayer for the Muslim community.

This year, Eid is being celebrated amid a nationwide lockdown imposed as a precautionary measure to contain the spread of COVID-19.

Mumbai, Aug 3: Megastar Amitabh Bachchan says he has immense gratitude for the doctors who provided him with medical care for Covid-19 and feels overwhelmed to be free of the virus finally.

Amitabh, on Sunday, tested negative for the novel coronavirus and was discharged from hospital.

The 77-year-old actor was admitted to Nanavati hospital along with son Abhishek after testing positive for Covid-19 on July 11. Abhishek, 44, is still positive and will remain under medical care.

"It has been heartening to be back from the Hospital after the ‘mukti’ from the coronavirus but a sour taste in the mouth when Abhishek has to still be in the medical care," Amitabh wrote in his blog.

The actor said doctors are tirelessly working towards battling the virus "each hour" through consultation, sharing of information and experience with their fraternity from other parts of the world which gives "the hope of repair."

"Assuring us each minute that ‘all shall be well’ , when in fact they themselves struggle to find that confirmed patent that can be used, delivered, executed to save lives and conditions from the virus.

"When I had addressed them as 'angels in white' I had never imagined that I would be supine in their midst to savour their angelic presence, as they give us hope, inspiration and the strength to fight. They are quite quite remarkable. My gratitude shall never fail for them... feeling bad for Abhishek .. prayers he comes home soon," he added.

On Sunday, Abhishek thanked well-wishers for their continued support and said he would remain under medical care.

"I, unfortunately, due to some comorbidities remain Covid-19 positive and remain in hospital. Again, thank you all for your continued wishes and prayers for my family. Very humbled and indebted. I'll beat this and come back healthier! Promise," he wrote.

Abhishek's wife, actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, 46, and eight-year-old daughter Aaradhya were discharged from the hospital on Monday after testing negative for Covid-19.
