Priyanka never wore bindi despite having a husband; she wears only during polls: B L Santosh

Ballari, Apr 21: B L Santosh, BJP’s national joint general secretary, took potshots at Congress president Rahul Gandhi and his sister, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, over the former wearing a dhoti and the latter sporting a bindi. The remarks have drawn criticism from the Congress.

“Unlike Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is a daiva bhakta (devotee), Mr. Gandhi and Ms Vadra are devotees of elections,” he said. 

He went on to say that Ms. Vadra never wore a bindi six months ago “despite having a husband” but was doing so now during election campaign. Mr Santosh was addressing the Yuva Shakti Jagruti Sabha at Karatagi town in Koppal district on Friday. He challenged both Mr. Gandhi and Ms. Vadra to call themselves “atheists”.

He said one vote cast this time would result in two governments being formed — the Modi government at the Centre and a new government in the State, predicting the fall of the coalition government after the elections.

Reacting to this, Congress leader and former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said such derogatory remarks against Congress leaders stemmed from “desperation” of BJP leaders.

Bengaluru, Apr 19: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister CN Ashwath Narayan on Sunday said that "only essential and critical number of" employees of the Information Technology (IT) companies will be allowed to work from offices from April 20 onwards in Bengaluru, while others will have to continue working from home.

"Only essential and critical number of employees required will be allowed to turn up. In the next two days, it will be reviewed and a suitable decision will be taken. 

All the details will be communicated to the IT companies," Narayan said here.

Earlier on Saturday, in a meeting to review COVID-19 situation in Karnataka, it was considered that one-third of the employees of IT and biotechnology companies could be allowed to work from the office premises, while the rest should continue to work from home.

Earlier on April 17, the Deputy CM, after holding a video conference meeting with heads of the IT and biotechnology companies, had told reporters that up to 50 per cent of the workforce would have the opportunity to function from office premises after April 20.

Mangaluru, Jul 21: Private hospitals cannot send back COVID-19 patients for any reason, district in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary said on Monday.

The Minister was addressing a meeting at the Father Muller Medical College here on the arrangements made for COVID-19 patients.

Dakshina Kannada district is quite advanced in the medical field. Hence, the government will not tolerate COVID-19 patients wandering from one hospital to another for treatment. Refusing to admit COVID-19 patients in hospitals is unacceptable, he warned.

Udupi, May 19: Within minutes after health and family welfare department announced four fresh covid-19 cases in Udupi district, a girl who had come from central part of Karnataka tested positive for the coronavirus thereby taking the count of cases detected after last evening to five. 

With this the total number of confirmed covid-19 cases in the district rose to 16. Three among them have recovered. One patient died last week. There are 12 active cases. 

According to sources, the 17-year-old girl from Chitradurga had visited KMC hospital in Manipal for cancer treatment on May 16. 

Her throat swabs were sent for corona testing on the following day. Today she obtained a positive report. Hence, she was shifted to Dr TMA Pai Covid hospital.
