Prof. Mahesh Chandra Guru jailed for insulting Sri Ram

ProfBengaluru, Jun 23: A journalism professor at the University of Mysore who had called Union Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani a “low-level actor” who did not deserve to be the HRD minister has been jailed for insulting Sri Ram.

B ?P?Mahesh Chandra Guru had allegedly used derogatory words against Sri Ram, during a refresher workshop on Media and Human Rights', held at the UGC-Academic Staff College on January 3. Subsequently, a complaint was registered at Jayalakshmipuram police station.

Guru, was arrested on June 17 when he appeared before a Mysore court in connection with a case.

He is also facing another case filed by the Akhila Karnataka Dr Ambedkar Prachara Samiti over his comments against Modi and Irani, the human resource development minister minister.

Guru who has been teaching at Mysore University for several years is known for his outspoken views on social issues.

Shivamogga, May 21: A quarantine facility at Bapuji Nagar in Shivamogga on Wednesday evening was vandalised, by a group of people. leading to chaos.

The police had to resort to baton-charge to control the situation.

Locals were opposing the facility, which is being used to isolate travellers from different states in the view of coronavirus.

Deputy Commissioner KB Sivakumar said that the police department will investigate and book a case against the protesters.

Davanagere, Jun 2: A special pooja was performed by Honnali BJP MLA and Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa's political secretary MP Renukacharya at Hirekalmatha, in Honnali against COVID-19.

A Nava Graha pooja was also performed for the betterment of those infected. Those present at the pooja maintained social distancing norms and covered their faces with masks.

The total number of coronavirus cases in the country now stands at 1,90,535 including 93,322 active cases. While 91,819 people have either been cured, discharged or migrated, 5,394 deaths have been reported.

Bengaluru, Apr 30: Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, has directed the Bengaluru City Police to return all the vehicles, which were seized during the Coronavirus Lockdown period, for having flouted rules.

The City Police Commissioner, Bhaskar Rao, informed that it was decided to return the seized vehicles to the owners, after verifying documents.

He said that the vehicles had been seized while enforcing strict guidelines, issued to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus, in the city.
