Prof. Sareen Sheikh awarded Ph.D. by Mangalore University

Mangaluru, Apr 30: Sareen Sheikh, Assistant Professor at Department of Engineering Chemistry, P.A. College of Engineering, Mangaluru has been awarded Ph.D. degree in Chemistry by Mangalore University for her thesis entitled Preparation and Characterization of Natural Fibre Reinforced Bio-composite Films. 

This research work was carried under the guidance of Dr. G.K. Nagaraja, Professor and Chairman, Department of Chemistry, Mangalore University.

The Management, Principal, Staff and Students heartily congratulate her for accomplishing this academic milestone.

Mangaluru, Apr 22: City Police Commissioner Dr P S Harsha, on Wednesday, interacted with families of Covid-19 warriors of the Police Department through a special video conference to infuse confidence in them.

He spoke to the family members of the police personnel who, along with ASHA workers, are monitoring the home quarantined people and even assist them in supplying essentials and medicines.

Most of the family member of the police personnel were of North Karnataka origin and the Commissioner asked them to stay safe by staying at home and explained to them the good work done by their family members in the Police Department.

Bengaluru, Aug 5: Touted as a first of its kind in the nation, a mobile Covid-19 lab was inaugurated on Wednesday by the Karnataka Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar.

The lab, approved by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) can do 9,000 RT-PCR (reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction) tests per month, an official press release said here. "This is a unique lab having all safety features and capable of producing 100% accurate results within four hours," Dr Sudhakar was quoted as saying in the press release.

The Indian Institute of Science (IISC) had developed the lab and handed it over to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS).

The mobile lab can also be used for molecular diagnostic-testing and can be deployed in coronavirus hot spots quickly, the release said adding, apart from Covid-19, the lab can be utilised for testing H1N1, HCV, TB, HPV and HIV among others.

Mangaluru, Jun 26: In a gut-wrenching incident, a pack of stray dogs attacked a herd of barking deer, also known as Indian muntjac at Dr Shivaram Karanth Biological Park at Pilikula on the outskirts of the city last night.

Dhama H Jayaprakash Bhandary, director of the biological park said: “Due to heavy rains a tree was uprooted damaging the compound wall of the park one day ago. Last night pack of stray dogs entered the park and attacked the barking deer. When the incident came to light, 10 barking deer had lost their lives and many others were injured.”

He said that five years ago they had rescued four barking deer that bred and multiplied to 40. “We had planned to release some of the barking deer to jungle and retain around a dozen in the park. Last night’s incident has shocked us,” he said, adding that the injured barking deer are being treated.
