Prostitution racket, drug gang busted

Bengaluru, Sep 5: Central Crime Branch (CCB) police on Sunday busted a prostitution racket at a massage parlour on 10th Cross, HAL 3rd Stage, east Bengaluru.

crime copy Seven persons were arrested and six women were rescued. Police also seized Rs 94,000. The women from West Bengal had been promised jobs here and brought to Bengaluru. The arrested are Jayanth Shetty, 27, from Bommanahalli, Dheeraj Sharma, 24, from Uttarakhand, Chandwala, 38, from Jayanagar, Rajesh Kumar, 27, from Chennai, Arun N, 33, from Namakkal, Muzamil, 39, from Someshwaranagar and Vasu, 50, from Ahmedabad.

In another raid, CCB arrested five persons in Rajarajeshwari Nagar for selling marijuana. Purushotham, Ravi, Kalimuthu, Akram and Govind Prasad are all residents of Peenya. Officers said the men would get marijuana from other states and use youngsters from a nearby slum to sell it.

11 policemen sentenced to life for Raja Man Singh murder in 1985

Mathura, Jul 22: A local court in Uttar Pradesh's Mathura on Wednesday sentenced 11 policemen, including the then Deputy Superintendent of Police, to life imprisonment in a case pertaining to the murder of royal Raja Man Singh in 1985.

District Judge Sadhana Rani Thakur announced the life imprisonment sentence a day after holding them guilty of the killing. Three policemen were, however, acquitted. Four men died during the trial.

The policemen were convicted under Section 302 (murder), 148 (rioting) and 149 (Every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) of the Indian Penal Code.

The verdict comes 35 years after Man Singh was killed. He, along with two others, was shot dead in police firing a day after he crashed his jeep into the then Rajasthan Chief Minister Shiv Charan Mathur's helicopter in a fit of anger.

Covid patient who fled hospital commits suicide after being brought back

Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 10: The man who fled from the Medical College Hospital where he was undergoing treatment for COVID-19 committed suicide on Wednesday morning after being brought back. He used his bed sheet to hang himself from the ceiling.

Hailing from Anad near Nedumangadu, the man, who was undergoing treatment in the isolation room set up at KHRWS pay ward, escaped from the hospital and boarded two KSRTC buses to reach his home.

The Health Department had said the latest tests had returned negative and he was to be discharged on Wednesday. However, City Police Commissioner Balram Kumar Upadhyay had claimed that one more test result of the person was awaited.

The man was blocked by locals upon his arrival at Anad. He was later taken back to the hospital and the police had registered a case against him under the Kerala Public Health Act and Epidemic Diseases Ordinance.
