Protect me and punish those protested against me: Mudigere BJP MLA writes to Home Minister

Mudigere, Feb 22: BJP leader and Mudigere MLA M P Kumaraswamy has written to the Home Minister seeking protection in the wake of a recent protest against him by the local unit of the Communist Party of India.

The MLA, in his letter written on Tuesday, said in the year 2004 a few people under the leadership of Devavrunda Ravi assaulted him over the absence of doctors in a hospital. He had filed a case against him with Mudigere police, but withdrew the case later as per the advice of some people.

“The same people staged a protest at Balur on February 18 and made false allegations against me with regard to a land dispute. They made derogatory remarks against me because I belonged to the Scheduled Caste”, he said.

He also appealed to the Minister to register a case under the SC-ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against those named in his letter.

The local unit of CPI staged a protest on February 18 demanding that a case be registered against Mr. Kumaraswamy and his followers for allegedly stealing coffee beans from the farm belonging to Lokesh, a Dalit, at Kalmane village.

Lokesh had filed the complaint, which the police had refused to register. Lakshman Achar, CPI leader, said.

Apr 21: An 80-year-old COVID-19 patient has died in Karnataka's Kalaburagi district, taking the death toll in the state to 17, Medical Education Minister K Sudhakar said on Tuesday.

The elderly person was suffering from Parkinson's disease for the last three years and died at a hospital on Monday, the minister said in a tweet.

"The person had developed fever on Sunday and was admitted to the hospital. The patient passed away yesterday at 9 am. Last night at 9 pm the death report came, which confirmed that the person was COVID-19 positive," Sudhakar tweeted.

The total number of COVID-19 infections in the state has crossed the 400-mark, according to last evening's bulletin by the Karnataka health department.

Mangaluru, Apr 28:  Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner, Sindhu B Rupesh on Tuesday announced a relaxation in the sealed down parts of the district.

Seal-down in Bantwal's Sajipanadu, Belthangady Taluk's Karaya and Sullia Taluk's Ajjavara have been relaxed, he said.

The move comes on the backdrop of the fact that no positive cases have been reported in these places and all the primary and secondary contacts of the patients have completed their quarantine period.

India on Sunday witnessed annual solar eclipse or 'surya grahan' 2020, the third eclipse even for this year after first two lunar eclipses took place in January and June and the last annual solar eclipse of this decade.

The solar eclipse started from around 9 a.m. across the Indian map as the Sun, the Moon, and the Earth came in a straight line, and the country witnessed the 'deepest' annular solar eclipse in over a century.

Astrologers said it a fourth super rare hybrid eclipse which is a mix between an annular and total solar eclipse.

Areas like Hyderabad, Chennai, Bhubaneshwar, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Delhi, Patna, Shillong and more witnessed a partial phase of the annular solar eclipse from 9 a.m.

In the eclipse, the distance of the Moon and Earth will be larger than usual which means the moon will not be able to cover up the sun fully and will leave out the borders of the sun - giving an appearance of a "Ring of Fire".

Press Information Bureau in a tweet informed that it is the last annular solar eclipse in India of this decade.

People can catch glimpse of the partially covered sun between 10 a.m. and 2.28 p.m. as per the time differing as locations in India. The eclipse will continue for over three hours covering 84 per cent Sun.

There are three types of solar eclipses - total, partial, and annular.
