Protest is indefinite, will fill street with lakhs: Kejri

New Delhi, Jan 21: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Tuesday said his protest was indefinite and threatened to fill the street with lakhs of people, if the government does not concede his demands.

"I said 10 days, but it was a way of saying that the protest is indefinite. If the central government does not agree to our demands by Jan 26, then we will fill Rajpath (the central boulevard in the heart of central Delhi) with lakhs of people," said the chief minister.

The rain also didn't deter the chief minister and he remained adamant on sitting outside the Rail Bhavan, as his sit-in for pressing the demand for control over Delhi Police and suspension of five policemen continued for the second day Tuesday.

"We will continue to sit here and this will be the best Republic Day. People will come from different parts of the country and this Republic Day there won't be processions but government will find people on the streets," he said.

Earlier in the day, Kejriwal criticised the union home minister, saying Sushilkumar Shinde does not have the right to decide where he should sit for protest.

"Who is Shinde to tell me where to protest and where not to? I am the chief minister of Delhi and I have the right to decide not Shinde, instead I can decide where Shinde can stay," Kejriwal told reporters outside the Rail Bhavan here.

The chief minister, along with his ministers and volunteers, spent the entire night on the road outside the Rail Bhavan raising slogans.

Due to the ongoing protest, four Delhi Metro stations in the heart of the capital, which were closed Monday, continued to remain shut Tuesday.

"I realise that the closing of the Metro stations has caused a lot of trouble for the common man. So, I am telling Shinde to open them and stop causing inconvenience to the people," Kejriwal said.

He said the area has been surrounded with barricades, turning it into a jail. The chief minister also complained about the absence of toilet facility in the area.

"Today in the morning, I myself broke the barricade and my ministers went to the toilets. Shinde has closed the toilets of all the buildings. We are people from India not Pakistan."

"Why is the home minister treating us like this? Where will the women go to use the toilets?", Kejriwal asked.

New Delhi, Feb 12: Unidentified people opened fire at the convoy of the newly elected Aam Aadmi Party legislator Naresh Yadav in Southwest Delhi when he and his supporters were returning home after visiting a temple after his victory, killing a party volunteer, police and a senior AAP leader said.

The firing incident happened in Kishangarh village late Tuesday night.

Police said they have detained a person for questioning and the incident appears to be a case of personal enmity. Sources said seven rounds were fired at the MLA's convoy.

Another person injured in the incident has been admitted to a hospital.

AAP leader Sanjay Singh identified the dead party volunteer as Ashok Mann.

“Convoy of MLA Naresh Yadav attacked in Mehrauli, Ashok Mann killed. Naresh Yadav was returning home after visiting a temple,” Singh said in a tweet in Hindi.

“At least one volunteer has passed away due to bullet wounds. Another is injured,” AAP tweeted.

Ankit Lal, AAP's social media in-charge, added that miscreants in another car opened fire on the MLA's convoy near Fortis Hospital.

New Delhi, Aug 3: India's COVID-19 tally crossed the 18 lakh mark with 52,972 positive cases and 771 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.

The total COVID-19 cases stand at 18,03,696 including 5,79,357 active cases, 11,86,203 cured/discharged/migrated and 38,135 deaths," said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Monday.

As per the data provided by the Health Ministry, Maharashtra -- the worst affected state from the infection -- has a total of 1,48,843 active cases and 15,576 deaths. A total of 4,41,228 coronavirus cases have been recorded in the state up to Sunday.

Tamil Nadu has reported a total of 56,998 active cases and 4,132 deaths. While Delhi has recorded 10,356 active cases, 1,23,317 recovered/discharged/migrated cases and 4,004 deaths.

The COVID-19 samples tested across the country has crossed the 2 crore mark till August 2.

The total number of COVID-19 samples tested up to August 2 is 2,02,02,858 including 3,81,027 tests that were conducted yesterday, said Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on Monday.

New Delhi, Jun 11: Petrol and diesel prices on Thursday were hiked by 60 paise per litre each - the fifth straight daily increase in rates since oil PSUs ended an 82-day hiatus in rate revision.

Petrol price in Delhi was hiked to Rs 74 per litre from Rs 73.40 while diesel rates were increased to Rs 72.22 a litre from Rs 71.62, according to a price notification of state oil marketing companies.

Rates have been increased across the country and vary from state to state depending on the incidence of local sales tax or VAT.

This is the fifth daily increase in rates in a row since oil companies on Sunday restarted revising prices in line with costs, after ending an 82-day hiatus.

In five hikes, petrol price has gone up by Rs 2.74 per litre and diesel by Rs 2.83.
