Protests over church attack ahead of polls in the capital

New Delhi, Feb 5: Just ahead of the Delhi Assembly polls, scores of Delhilites have come together for a protest march over the recent church attacks and governments inaction in the case, according to TV reports.

The protesters will be marching from the Scared Heart Church till Home Minister Rajnath Singh's residence in Delhi.

It's a silent protest to express our anguish over government's inaction in the church attack cases, said a protester to TV reporters.

The protesters demand an answer as to why police has not taken any action against the miscreants and why the government is silent.

The Delhi police has reached the spot and is detaining the protesters.

Section 144 has been imposed outside Home Minister's residence.

A church was vandalised by unidentified miscreants in South Delhi's Vasant Kunj area on Feb 2, 2015.

This is the fifth such attack on a church since November last year.

Last month, a church was vandalised in West Delhi's Vikaspuri area. In December, the St Sebastian's Church in Dilshad Garden, was partly gutted and the Christian community had alleged foul play in the incident.

Government makes a u-turn on selling non-essential items on e-commerce

New Delhi, Apr 19: The government on Sunday prohibited the sale of non-essential items through e-commerce platforms during the ongoing lockdown, four days after allowing such companies to sale mobile phones, refrigerators and ready-made garments.

Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla issued an order excluding the non-essential items from sale by the e-commerce companies from the consolidated revised guidelines, which listed the exemption given to the services and people from the purview of the lockdown.

The order said the following clause "E-commerce companies. Vehicles used by e-commerce operators will be allowed to ply with necessary permissions" is excluded from the guidelines.

The previous order had said such items were allowed for sale through e-commerce platforms from April 20.

However, the reason for reversing the order is not known immediately.

Ex-CJI Ranjan Gogoi takes oath as Rajya Sabha MP

New Delhi, Mar 19: Former Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi took oath as Rajya Sabha MP on Thursday.

Gogoi's wife Rupanjali Gogoi, daughter, and son in law were also present in Parliament.

Congress staged a walkout from the Rajya Sabha over Gogoi's membership to the House.

Meanwhile, Union Minister Ravishankar Prasad welcomed Gogoi in the Rajya Sabha.

President Ram Nath Kovind had nominated the former CJI to the Rajya Sabha on March 16.

Gogoi served as the 46th Chief Justice of India from October 3, 2018, to November 17, 2019.

On November 9, 2019, a five-judge Bench headed by him had delivered the verdict in the long-pending Ramjanmabhoomi case.

Court rejects Vikram Bhave's bail plea in Dabholkar murder case

Pune, Jan 21: The Pune session court on Tuesday rejected the bail application of accused Vikram Bhave in the Dabholkar murder case.
Last year, Pune Sessions Court had granted an extension of 90 days to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to file a charge-sheet against Bhave.

On August 17, 2019, the court had rejected Bhave's bail plea.

During the course of hearing, Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) Prakash Suryavanshi, appearing for the CBI, had in June last year contended that Bhave helped the assailants to escape.

The CBI had arrested Bhave and another accused Sanjeev Punalekar from Mumbai on May 25, 2019 in connection with the matter.

Founder of the Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti (MANS), Dabholkar was shot dead by bike-borne assailants while returning home from a morning walk on August 20, 2013.
