Pulwama martyr’s family closes ranks, scotches rumours of rift

Mandya, Mar 3: The wife and mother of Pulwama martyr H Gurudenied any rift in the family and asserted they’re not seeking more compensation money at a press conference here on Saturday. Mother Chikkatayamma and wife Kalavathi scotched rumours of family infighting over compensation and talk of Kalavathi being pressurised to marry Guru’s younger brother so that the money stays within the family.

An emotional Kalavathi said, “I should never forget media support during our moments of distress. However, all news about the family rift and my remarriage is fake. I request them not to spread false news and rumours as these hurt us a lot.”

Chikkatayamma said there’s no reason for the family to fight as they’re all suffering over losing Guru. ‘We have to console each other. Money will not bring back my son. Some neighbours, envious about the compensation, are spreading rumours,” she said. She added that Kalavathi was the most-loved family member and that they should live as one. “I request the media not to carry news which hurts us and tarnishes my family,” she said.

Chikkatayamma said they would meet chief minister HD Kumaraswamy on Monday and transport minister DC Thammanna to seek a government job for Kalavathi, whose Jayamma was also present at the press meet.

New Delhi, Jul 28: Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers Sadananda Gowda on Monday said that India has proved that it is the "pharmacy of the world" in the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking at a press conference here, Gowda said, "India is often referred to as 'the pharmacy of the world' and this has been proved true especially in the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic when India continued to export critical life-saving medicines to the countries."

Meanwhile, Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers Mansukh Mandviya said that three bulk drug parks will be developed in the country in partnership with the states at Rs 3,000 crores.

"Three bulk drug parks will be developed in the country in partnership with the states at Rs 3,000 crores. Four medical device parks will also be developed with a government grant of Rs 100 crores for one park," Mandaviya said.

Mangaluru, Jul 2: A BJP MLA in Dakshina Kannada has tested positive for covid-19.

Dr Bharat Shetty, who represents Mangaluru North Assembly constituency, took to Twitter to confirm the news.

“I have been tested covid-19 positive. With all your blessings, I'm recovering and will be under treatment for few days,” he tweeted. 

He also requested the people to maintain social distancing, wear masks while going out and wash hands frequently.

Chikkamagaluru, Jan 19: A Chikkamagaluru court on Saturday were sentenced to death two persons convicted of rape and murder 18-year-old girl in 2016.

Pradeep M, 32, and Santhosh, 24, of Vykuntapura in Sringeri taluk raped a 18-year-old girl while she was returning home from college on Februrary 16, 2016.

The crime in which a first year B.Com student who was walking towards her home in a footway was stopped, raped and murdered by the duo. The killers then had dumped her body in a discarded well.
