Mangaluru, Jun 9: Finally the police have succeeded in tracing the killer lorry that claimed the lives of an NRI and his cousin at Pumpwell circle in the city recently.
The accused has been identified as Gopala Krishna (28), a resident of Nekkilady near Uppinangady. He was arrested and produced before a court.
The sleuths of Mangaluru East Traffic police station led by Inspector Suresh Kumar cracked the hit-and-run case with the help of CCTV footages collected from Hejamady, Talapady and NITK toll gates.
A speeding unidentified lorry had allegedly knocked down a two-wheeler near at Pumpwell (Bhagwan Mahaveer) Circle on May 29.
After examining all the CCTV footages, the team of investigators comprising head constables Yashwanth, Sanjeev and Tasleem tracked a lorry bearing KL 40 D 6678. The lorry was reportedly plying from Maharashtra to Kerala and was on the wrong side when it hit the motorbike.
Ronald, an NRI, who had come down to city from Dubai a couple of weeks ago and his cousin Roshwin D'Souza lost their lives in the mishap. The incident took place hours after Ronald's engagement.
There was no eyewitness as the accident took place at around 1 a.m. Motorists stopped their vehicles and shifted the injured to a nearby private hospital, where they were declared dead.
