Pune limps backs to normalcy after blast

Pune BlastPune, Jul 11: An uneasy calm prevailed in the city today as people took to their chores, a day after a low-intensity blast rocked the parking lot of a police station here resulting in minor injuries to five persons.

An IED planted on a stolen motorbike exploded in front of the Faraskhana Police Station, located in the sensitive zone which houses the famous Dagadusheth Halwai Ganesh temple, bringing back memories of earlier bomb explosions in the city for which terror outfit Indian Mujahideen was blamed.

Maharashtra Home Minister R R Patil, who visited the blast spot last night, announced handing over the probe to Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) while describing the explosion as "suspicious".

While he put the figure of those who sustained minor injuries in the busy square at four, Vishrambaug police officials today said five persons were treated for superficial injuries in hospital and discharged immediately.

The injured included Gulab Khedekar, a constable attached to the Faraskhana Police Station.

According to city Police Commissioner Satish Mathur, the stolen 'Splendour' motorbike belonged to Dada Rajge, a constable in neighbouring Satara who had lodged a complaint of theft on June 25.

The Home Minister said the blast prima facie looked a "deliberate" act to cause panic and added the government will strengthen the ATS team with adequate manpower and senior officers drawn from Pune Police to investigate the incident.

Ball bearings and nails scattered in the area after the blast, that occurred with loud thud and damaged three other adjacent two-wheelers in the parking, have been sent for forensic examination along with other remnants to determine the nature of explosive and the trigger mechanism employed by the culprits.

Mathur said police were "examining all angles and not ruling out any possibility" in the investigation but declined to pinpoint any particular group or individuals behind the incident at this stage.

The CCTV footage available in the area will be examined for clues, he added.

Patil, while urging people to remain calm, said additional CCTV cameras will be installed in sensitive areas of the city before the forthcoming Ganesh festival that draws large crowds, enhancing potential threat to public peace by anti-social elements.

New Delhi, Feb 8: A 26-year-old woman sub-inspector (SI) of the Delhi Police was shot dead near Rohini East Metro station on Friday night, officials said.

The SI, Preeti Ahlawat, was posted in Patparganj Industrial Area Police Station, police said.

A call about the incident was received around 9.30 pm, they said, adding she received gunshot wounds on her head.

"We have identified the suspects and CCTV footage of the area has been collected," said SD Mishra, Additional Commissioner of Police (Rohini).

Three empty cartridges were found from the spot, the officer said, adding a case has been registered and a probe is on.

Personal enmity is suspected to be the reason behind the killing, the officer said.

Ahlawat joined the Delhi Police in 2018.

Ayodhya,  Aug 5: The Saryu Ghat was seen decorated ahead of the foundation stone-laying ceremony of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya on Wednesday.

In wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, sanitisation work was also done at the Hanuman Garhi temple in the morning ahead of the Prime Minister's visit. Strict security and COVID-19 protocols will be followed at the temple.

Prime Minister Modi will perform 'pooja' at Hanuman Garhi and Shree Ramlala Virajman before performing 'bhoomi pujan' of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) had informed on Tuesday.

He will unveil a plaque to mark the laying of the foundation stone and also release a commemorative postage stamp on 'Shree Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir'.

Around 175 eminent guests have been invited for the ‘bhoomi pujan’ of the Ram Janmbhoomi Mandir. Besides Prime Minister Modi, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, Mahant Nritya Gopaldas Maharaj, Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will be present on stage.

"175 eminent guests have been invited for the ‘bhoomi pujan’ of Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Mandir. 135 Pujya Sants belonging to 135 spiritual traditions will be present in the programme. Some eminent citizens of Ayodhya have also been invited," as per Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra.

Mumbai, Jan 19: After Kerala and Punjab, the Maha Vikas Agadi (MVA) government is also mulling over a resolution against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 in Maharashtra Assembly.

Speaking to news agency, Congress spokesperson Raju Waghmare said: "Our senior party leader Balasaheb Thorat has also shared his stand on the CAA. Even Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has said that we are against the CAA. As far as the resolution against CAA is concerned, our senior leaders of MVA will sit together and decide."

If this happens, then Maharashtra will be the third state to pass a resolution against CAA, which grants citizenship to non-Muslim refugees from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh, who came to India on or before December 31, 2014.

Emphasising that CAA is 'unconstitutional,' senior lawyer and Congress leader Kapil Sibal has said that every state Assembly has the constitutional right to pass a resolution and seek CAA's withdrawal.

He added that it would be problematic to oppose the CAA if the law is declared to be 'constitutional' by the Supreme Court.

"I believe the CAA is unconstitutional. Every State Assembly has the constitutional right to pass a resolution and seek its withdrawal. When and if the law is declared to be constitutional by the Supreme Court then it will be problematic to oppose it. The fight must go on!" Sibal tweeted.

Earlier speaking at the Kerala Literature Festival on Saturday, the Congress leader had said that constitutionally no state can say that it will not implement the amended Citizenship Act, as doing so will be "unconstitutional".

Kerala government has also approached the Supreme Court against the CAA following the passage of a resolution against it in the state Assembly.

Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh has also announced that the Congress state government is going to join Kerala in the Supreme Court in the case.
