Puttur: 15-yr-old girl on her way to school dragged to isolated place, raped by youth

Mangaluru, 5: A minor Dalit girl was allegedly raped in Puttur of Dakshina Kannada district on Friday morning. The girl, who fell unconscious after being raped, is currently being treated at a hospital.

Police arrested Ajith P, 28, a resident of Madnoor in Puttur, for committing the crime.

According to police, the incident took place between 7am to 8am on Friday, when the 15-year-old victim was on her way to school.

The accused approached the victim and lied to her that her mother had fallen unconscious on a nearby hill. The accused then dragged the girl to a remote place and raped her.

She fell unconscious when the accused closed her mouth while dragging her. When the girl woke up, she found that her school uniform was removed, and that she was in pain. The girl went home and informed her parents of her plight. She was rushed to a hospital immediately.

Police said the survivor identified Ajith as her rapist. Ajith works in the construction industry. The accused has confessed to the crime.

A case under IPC Section 376(2) (1) and various sections of the SC/ST Atrocity Act and Section 4 of the Pocso Act has been booked against the accused at the Puttur Rural police station.

Mangaluru, April 3: A police officer in Sullia town of Dakshina Kannada district got injured on Friday after unidentified youth pelted stones at him.

The incident took place when the cop stopped them from entering into the state from Kerala in the view of nationwide lockdown. He was later administered medical aid.

Mangaluru, Feb 2: A local court on Saturday remanded Aditya Rao,the suspect in the Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) bomb case, to two weeks judicial custody.

Rao was produced before the Sixth Judicial First Class Magistrate Court after the 10-day police custody expired.

Rao has been in police custody since January 22 after he surrendered before the police in Bengaluru on January 21 and was later brought here.

He had allegedly planted an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at the airport on January 20 triggering panic and later made a hoax call to the airport terminal that a bomb had been planted in an IndiGo flight.

During the last ten days, police took the accused to several places in the city and Udupi where he had frequented in the recent past.

He was also taken to the room where he stayed while he was working at a hotel in the city.

Bengaluru, Apr 17: Nikhil Kumaraswamy, son of former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy, married Revathi, grand-niece of former Congress Minister for Housing, M Krishnappa, on Friday.

According to sources, more than 100 people participated in the marriage ceremony held at Kumaraswamy's farmhouse in Kethaganahally, Ramanagara.

There were around 50-60 members from former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda's family and more than 30 people participated from Revathi's family, sources added.

This comes in the middle of a nationwide lockdown which has been imposed to deal with the coronavirus threat.

Earlier, HD Kumaraswamy had said that the marriage ceremony would be held behind closed doors in the presence of family members.

Nikhil Kumaraswamy, who contested the Lok Sabha election from Mandya, is also the national youth wing president of Janata Dal-Secular.
