Puttur court quasheshate speech' case against PFI leaders, Rajashekhar

Mangaluru, Feb 8: In a relief to Popular Front of India leader Ilyas Mohammed Thumbay and four others, a local court in Puttur has quashed an eight year oldhate speech' case against them.

SDPIRAJ1The other four persons acquitted by the Additional Civil Judge and JMFC, Puttur, are: writer and critic G Rajashekhar, Dalit leader Mahalinga, PFI leaders Abdul Latheef Puttur and Abdul Hameed Haji.

The case was registered in 2009 wherein the above five had been accused of promoting enmity between different communities of people.

The case was based on a complaint lodged by Rohitaksha, then Uppinangady unit president of Hindu Jagarana Vedike, at Uppinangady police station.

The complainant had accused them of delivering communally provocative speeches at a programme organised by PFI in Uppinangady in 2009. Mr Thumbay was then the Karnataka state president of PFI.

Ruling in favour of the speakers, the judge dismissed charges which alleged that their speeches offended certain communities.

Its unfortunate that innocent persons are being charged of hate speech whereas real hate mongers like prabhakar bhaat, purohit, Mutalik etc etc are let free by police to give any speech. No action is being taken against these hate speakers. Law enforcing authorities are soft for real hate speakers of sangh parivar and filing cases agaisnt common speakers of other orgaisation. .

Bengaluru, Jan 3: Three advocates were appointed additional judges of the Karnataka High Court.

A Law Ministry notification, issued here on Friday said Maralur Indrakumar Arun, Engalaguppe Seetharamaiah Indiresh and Ravi Venkappa Hosmani have been appointed as additional judges of the high court on Thursday. The newly appointed Judges will continue in their post for a period of two years from the date they assume charge.

While the names of advocates Arun and Indiresh were recommended by the Collegium on March 25 last year the name of Advocate Hosmani was recommended by the Collegium on October 4.

Mangaluru, Jul 21: Muslims in coastal Karnataka will celebrate the Eid al-Adha on July 31, confirmed Islamic

Twaka Ahmed Musliyar, Qadhi of Managluru, has made this announcement following the crescent moon sighting in region. 

Today was the last day of Dhu al Qaeda and tomorrow (Wednesday, July 22) will be the first day of the month Dhu al Hijja.

The Eid al Adha always falls on the 10th day of Dhu al Hijja.

In most of the middle eastern countries including Saudi Arabia too Eid will be celebrated on the same day.

Mangalore, Jan 21: Former city councillor and social activists Naveenchandra and social activist Vidya Dinker have been invited to participate in two-day National Level Consultation on Urban Governance which will take place on January 22 and 23 at Juniper Hall, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.

Urban governance stakeholders of 20 states and one union territory will be participating in this national level consultative seminar. The participants will include elected representatives, NGO representatives and urban planning experts. The seminar is being organised by Mumbai based Prajna Foundation, which has undertaken an in-depth study of the governance of the 20 states and one union territories.

Having served several terms as a corporator of Mangaluru City Corporation, Naveenchandra is knowledgeable in matters relating to urban governance. He is very popular in his constituency. Vidya Dinker is a well known city based social activist. She is the Coordinator, Citizens Forum for Mangalore Development.

Vidya Dinker I can understand but Naveen i don't know on what qualifications and credentials he has been selected and to say he is Popular in his constituency is a Misnormer .  Just visit kambla ward once and speak to people and you can understand it better !!!
