Puttur, Jun 2: The bodies of an elderly couple, who drowned in Kumardhara River near Kadaba in Puttur taluk on Wednesday, were recovered yesterday following a joint operation by local divers and policemen.
Parameshwara Gowda (56) and his wife Bhavani (55) residents of Charvaka Kumbladi had come to Perabe village near Kadaba to attend a wedding on Wednesday.
While returning, instead of taking road, the couple tried to cross river which was swollen due to heavy rains and were washed away. The incident occurred around 3.30pm. Local who stay close to river, informed the police.
Police and expert divers from Mangaluru who started a search operation fished out bodies of couple on Thursday morning, around 200 metres from the spot. A case has been registered at Kadaba police station.
