Puttur: Rape attempt on student after SSLC exam by two relatives

attmptMangaluru, Apr 1: In a shocking incident, two youths allegedly attempted to rape a high school student in a remote village in Puttur taluk of Dakshina Kannada district.

The victim, a resident of Sediyapu hamlet near Bannur village, told police that two of her relatives took her to a remote place and attempted to rape her.

The accused are victim's cousin Shridhar and another relative Rajesh from Belthangady.

It is learnt that the duo committed the crime when the girl was returning home after writing her SSLC examination.

Police have registered a case against the two accused under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and launched a manhunt for them.

Udupi, Jan 5: The district administration has identified 460 beneficiaries who will be allotted flats at Herga under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, informed MLA Raghupati Bhat.

Speaking to reporters here on Sunday he said the Udupi Municipal Council will construct the apartments in the 8.22 acres of land earmarked for the purpose at Herga. The flats will be ready before April 2021.

Mangaluru, Apr 1: Police have arrested a person on charges of spreading malicious comments against the Karnataka government staff engaged in the prevention of the novel coronavirus in the district.

City Police Commissioner Harsha on Tuesday tweeted, “One Nizam has been arrested and sent to judicial custody on court orders for spreading malicious content on social media through a platform idunammadhwani.. regarding various government functionaries engaged in anti-COVID-19 work and spreading rumours.”

Udupi, Jun 1: As many as 73 people have been tested positive for coronavirus in Udupi district today.

The district has registered a total of 260 positive cases so far. Majority of the positive cases in Udupi district have inter-state travel history to Maharashtra.
