Qatar-bound passenger held with 10-kg ganja hidden in pumpkins at Mangaluru Airport

Mangaluru, May 19: A Qatar-bound passenger was arrested with huge quantity of of marijuana (ganja) at Mangaluru International Airport yesterday by the personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

The accused has been identified as Kalai Tasleem Basheer, a resident of Kalai in Karnataka. He had reportedly concealed the marijuana inside three giant pumpkins.

He was scheduled to depart on board an Air India flight to Doha, the capital of Qatar at 5.35pm. However, he was caught with during CISF’s random check up at the departure entry gate.

Basheer’s bag was opened and three large pumpkins were recovered. As this was found to be suspicious, the personnel on duty cut open the pumpkins to find 10 kg of marijuana placed in plastic wrappers inside, the official said.

According to sources, the accused was carrying the marijuana for his customers abroad. The accused was handed over to the Customs for further action, the sources added.

Bengaluru, May 14: Three youths died of "asphyxiation" when they fell into a pit in the abandoned Kolar gold field mines, where they had gone to allegedly steal iron material early on Thursday, police said.

On Wednesday night, the trio had entered the gold mine in Kolar district, about 100 km from Bengaluru, and fell in the pit after losing balance.

After inhaling the poisonous gas in the pit, they were asphyxiated to death, they said.

"It was a seven hour exercise after which we could bring out two bodies. Work is on to retrieve the third," a police officer told .

Police reached the spot after they were alerted by the accomplices of the deceased.

Bareilly, Jun 22: The All India Tanzeem Ulama-e-Islam, a religious and social organisation headed by five senior clerics, has issued a fatwa to boycott Chinese products in the country.

The clerics said the community members should stand with the army and government in this hour.

Expressing concern over India-China face-off, National general secretary of All India Tanzeem Ulama-e-Islam, Maulana Shahbuddin Rizvi expressed concern over the India-China face-off and said, "A fatwa has been passed for boycotting Chinese products on a query posted by a Bareilly-based resident. The clerics in the fatwa have condemned the conspiracy of China to encroach upon Indian land and the killing of our brave soldiers."

The panel of five clerics include national president of All India Tanzeem Ulama-e-Islam Mufti Ashfaq Hussain Qadri, Mufti Iqbal Ahmad Misbahi, Mufti Tauqir Ahmad Qadri, Mufti Hashim Raza Khan and Qari Saghir Ahmad Rizvi.

Mysuru, Jan 16: A day after the Mysuru Advocates’ Association refused to defend a student in Mysuru who has been charged with sedition case for displaying a ‘Free Kashmir’ placard, president of the People’s Lawyers’ Guild of Davangere, has come forward to appear in the Court on behalf of her.

Opposing the attack on JNU students and teachers at JNU recently, Nalini had displayed a ‘Free Kashmir’ placard during a protest on January 8 at Manasagangotri of the University of Mysore (UoM) campus here.

Members of the Mysuru Bar Association decided not to represent Nalini.
