Qatar: Hanan lift champion's trophy in cricket league

Doha, Jun 3: Hanan proved their superiority over other teams in the Qatar Veteran’s Cricket League by lifting the Champion’s trophy of the first Hanan Cricket Tournament 2014 in style.

Hanan had Sponsored Qatar Veteran’s Cricket League for the 1st time and they were so pleased with the running of the tournament, the enthusiasm of the teams and the audience response, they have confirmed their Sponsorship on an Annual basis.

Unfortunately the Owner Mr. Abdul Rehman Vanoo along with his friend Film star Mr. Raza Murad could not make it for the finals from India. Both of them are heavily involved with social services, educational activities and upliftment of the minority communities in India. The chief guest for the finals was Mr. Faisal Inamdar of Hanan and guests of honor were Syed Latifuddin a former Indian national football captain who had played for a number of years with Mohammadan Sporting and still active in promoting Football in India and his elder brother Mr.Fariduddin who is the father of Musharraf of DC Lagaan fame.

The finals had excellent commentary by Dr. Tariq Kureshi, Kumar Naidu and Haroon Rashid.

In Division I, Qalco winning the toss elected to bat and scored a respectable 174 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Ifzal was outstanding scoring 51 runs not out off 28 balls with 4 sixes and 3 boundary. He was ably assisted by opener Aftab scoring 30 runs of only 8 balls with 4 sixes and a boundary. Except Pali, 17 runs not out with 2 sixes, none of the other batsmen could contribute much. Babu, and Nazeer took 2 wickets each while Nassir & Imran took a wicket each.

In reply Hanan started strongly with Opener Aswar retiring scoring 30 runs of 8 balls with 4 sixes and a boundary. Sony 25 runs with 3 sixes. Imran 24 runs with a six and a boundary. Shakeel 20 runs with one six and two boundaries. Rauf 18 runs with two sixes and Parvez 18 runs with 3 sixes. Hanan comfortably scored 175 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 13 over. They were assisted with wides and dropped catches from the Qalco side. The man of the match was awarded to Imran. Awards were given the best performers of the tournament, best batsmen-Parvez of Hanan and Manhara of Qatar Quarry, best bowler-Sarfaraz of Qalco, best allrounder Manju of Qatar Quarry

In Division II Finals of the 1ST Hanan Cricket Tournament 2014, M. I. C. got the better of Al Shaqab while defeating them by 3 wickets.

In a match with see sawing fortunes M.I.C proved their superiority.

Al Shaqab winning the toss elected to bat. However they lost their Opener Abdul Jabbar for a duck off the 1st ball followed by one down batsman Amjad Khan again for a duck. So at the end of the 1st over bowled by Shihab, AL SHAQAB were 1 run for the loss of 2 wickets. However other Opener Salim Kaiser stabilized the innings and remained not out on 9 runs. Sadaqat who was batting well was unfortunately run out on 22 runs with a six and a boundary. Some powerful hitting by Atiq 36 runs with 4 sixes and a boundary and Captain Mumtaz 22 runs with 2 sixes and a boundary saw AL SHAQAB reach 161 runs for the loss of 10 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Mashooq contributed 14 runs with a six and a boundary.

Rehmat claimed 3 wickets while Shihab and Zakaria took 2 wickets each. Anwar & Javed took a wicket each.

In reply M.I.C. started strongly and were 27 runs for the loss of 1 wicket at the end of 4 overs but lost 4 wickets in succession to be 72 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 10 overs. Zakaria was not out on 16 runs while Mohd Imran was also not out for 16 runs. A hurricane knock of Anwar 31 runs with 3 sixes and a boundary assisted by Ishtiaq 17 runs with 2 sixes and Javed 19 runs not out with a six and a boundary saw M.I.C. reach 162 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 19 over.

Salim Kaiser bowled well taking 2 wickets, Amjad Mirza also claimed 2 wickets while Atiq, Shahid and Mumtaz took a wicket each. Al Shaqab paid for their dropped catches and bad fielding in the match. Man of the match was awarded to Anwar of MIC. Best performers of the division were also awarded, best batsmen- Rahid and Ishtiaq of MIC, best bowler- Zaheer of QVC, best allrounder-Mashooq of Al Shaqab.

The Prize distribution ceremony was attended by supporters and well wishers. Over 300 prizes were given away to various players in the tournament.

The Prize distribution ended with complimentary refreshments and a Lucky draw for Spectators.

Dubai: Karnataka Sports & Cultural Club (KSCC) distributed Eid Kit across the UAE (Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Al Ain, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah to the ) needy people on Eid al Fitr.

KSCC President Mr. Mohammed Ismail Said: “Eid is a Symbol of Gratitude and Unity. As the last few weeks have been hard for each one of us, we wanted to stand in solidarity to celebrate Eid, by helping labours and needy people. He also said that “We are together to be part of UAE. Serving these meals is our core social responsibility."

KSCC recently conducted humanitarian services during COVID-19 pandemic in 2 phases and conducted Blood Donation Drive. They have also planned to conduct next Blood Donation Drive on 25th May, 2020.

The KSCC main objective is to develop the expatriate community into a well-nourished section of society in the areas of social, sports and cultural activities.

Kuwait: State of Karnataka is enriched with Daasa culture, which had contributed immensely to its literature, culture, art & philosophy. Daasa tradition in Karnataka was part of the Bhakti movement which flourished from around 15th century and it extended considerable spiritual influence over the masses. Kuwait Kannada Koota, a socio-cultural association for the people of Karnataka in Kuwait, organized its annual Daasotsava on 14th February 2020 in remembrance of these saints, thereby displaying the rich cultural heritage of the state. 

The program started with a warm welcome address by Mrs. Spoorthy Kamath, convener of cultural committee. Divine invocation prayer by Mrs. Vasantha Ashok and Mrs. Sandhya Arun set the trend for the event. This was followed by lighting of the traditional lamp by the 2020 executive committee, comprising of President Mr. Rajesh Vittal, Vice President Mr. Sandeep Chabba, General Secretary Mr. Praveen Kumar Shetty and Treasurer Mr. Pradeep Rao. President, while welcoming the gathering, spoke about the importance of Daasas in Kannada literature & history and briefed about the series of upcoming programs. Cultural programs started with fancy dress competition by Koota children comprising of all age group starting from infants to elder kids. This program stole the show as the efforts & time invested by children and their parents were clearly visible. 

2019 executive committee was felicitated by the current committee for wonderfully managing Koota affairs & programs. This was followed by the release of Koota magazine “Marala Mallige", comprising of informative articles, drawings, poems etc., entirely contributed by the association members. Event’s main attraction “Vrindavana Leelavarana", a colorful dance drama spectacularly portrayed by 54 Koota children, was very well appreciated & received by the attendees. Association children who successfully completed 10th and 12th were felicitated as a token of encouragement. Executive committee gave away prizes to Kids who excelled in the stage competitions held earlier. Audience was treated to a divine and melodious Bhajan program conducted astutely by the ladies & men. Koota women performed Bhajan Kolata, along with ladies bhajan, in a well-coordinated manner. Vote of thanks was proposed by the secretary of Koota, thanking those who contributed for the success of the event. Another attraction was a quiz competition “Rasa Prashne", conducted efficiently between the programs, by Mr. Mahesh Shiramgond. 

The whole event was planned and executed astutely by the cultural committee under the leadership of Convener, Mrs. Spoorthy Kamath. Public Relations Committee, led by Mrs. Suparna Dambal, welcomed the members in a vibrant & colorful way, showcasing a beautifully erected divine mantap. The event was sponsored by Unimoni, LIC HFL, VSPL, Geetherb, Kotak Life Insurance, Joy Alukkas, Lulu Hypermarket & Total Environment. The program ended with a sumptuous satvik lunch, sponsored by the senior Koota member, Mr. Ramachandran Seetharaman.

Dammam: President of Indian Social Forum, Eastern Province Mr.Wasim Rabbani urged immediate intervention of Indian government to help Non Residential Indians who are in trouble due to corona pandemic in Saudi Arabia.

He said in a press rease that expatriate Indians are in concern  as number of corona infected people and  deaths are increasing in danger level.

Hea said, "the Saudi health minister's statement a few days ago indicates that the situation in Saudi needs to be taken more seriously with precautionary methods. There are concerns among expatriates because the number of people infected with the coronavirus and the number of deaths reported in various provinces are increasing at an alarming rate."

"Saudi Government and Health Ministry are taking excellent precautionary measures, however, in the coming days expect to see the number of cases to increase in Saudi Arabia. The Indian government needs to take diplomatic and immediate intervention to ensure the treatment of Indian expatriates considering the number of effected people increasing", He said.

He also urged that the Embassy and the Government of India should ensure qaurantiane faculty for Indian expatriates and arrange special low cost flights to bring back expatriates who would like to return home country.

" Government of India and Indian embassy need to intervene immediately to ensure that the quarantine system is in place for Indian expatriates as the facilities in the rooms where the residents are staying together are very limited. There should also be a mechanism to organize low-cost flight services for expatriates who are ready to go home. The government system should also be able to accommodate the expatriates in special quarantine areas in hometown as soon they arrive in India", he urged.
