Qatar: KMCA celebrates Karnataka Rajyotsava

Doha, Nov 12: The Karnataka Muslim Cultural Association (KMCA), an affiliate of Indian Cultural Centre under the aegis of the Embassy of India, State of Qatar, celebrated the 59th Karnataka Rajyotsava at Doha, Qatar at Al-Maha Academy for Boys- Ain Khalid, on Friday, November 7.

In keeping with the KMCA tradition, a token in cash, along with bouquet, was presented on behalf of the guests, to KMCA special needs coordinator Iqbal Manna who then handed over the same to the newly elected president of ICBF (Indian Community Benevolent Fund) Arvind Patil.

The president Niyaz Ahmed greeted the guests and the gathering then Manjunath introduced the felicitations for the evening.

To recognize and honour the unsung heroes of Karnataka, KMCA flew in Devaraju S R, the ambulance driver from BGS Global Hospital in Kengeri who helped in safe transport of a heart for a transplant operation to take place in Chennai, raced his part of the six-hour tight programme of 47.5 Kms from Kingeri to Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru, in a record time of 45 minutes. Devaraj was escorted to the dias by KMCA joint secretary Mujeeb & KMCA Ladies wing coordinator Syed Ashfaq.

Devaraj was felicitated by the dignitaries on the dais and KMCA executive committee Divakar Poojari an avid social worker and a prominent Kannadiga personality, known for his selfless demeanour towards the larger Indian community residing in Qatar. He was also felicitated during the evening.

Chief guest K M Varghese addressed the gathering and congratulated the Kannadiga community on the 59th Karnataka Rajyotsava. He emphasized the importance of keeping the rich cultural heritage alive among the expat community residing in Qatar.

KMCA Ladies’ wing distributed the prizes to the winners of the Explore Karnataka quiz competition held on October 31 as a precursor to Rajyotsava celebration. Ruksana Shaikh compered the segment and was helped by Aisha Rafique and Reshma Banu.

The quiz masters Arun Kumar and Milan Arun gave away the prizes in two categories.

The KMCA annual Souvenir, ‘Pragati’ in its second issue 2014, was released during the event. Editor-in-chief and KMCA PR Ahmed Saeed Assadi presented the first copy to the dignitaries on the dais and KMCA executive committee and lady’s wing. The souvenir was thereafter distributed in the gathering.

KMCA joint secretary Mohammed Mujeeb proposed vote of thanks.

The stage was well decorated for Indushree to mesmerize the gathering with her ventriloquism and she did a fantastic job. The children were all on the floor in front of the stage and the adults were jumping off their chairs in awe.

She presented the talking White Board, The Old Man Venky and The SmartHat Dinku. The three part presentation was filled in humour and comedy by the duo Y Gundu Rao and N Ramanath who kept the crowd entertained with mixed Kannada and Hindi jokes and adapted songs.

KMCA president and executive committee expressed their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the sponsors and supporters of KMCA namely, Euro Parts, Golden Trading, SBMK, National Waterproofing, Proscape, ALM, QDC.

Dammam: Indian Social Forum, Dammam, Karnataka chapter organized a "Live along with COVID-19" webinar on 29 May 2020 in association with HealthCare Polyclinic, Dammam.

The webinar at Zoom App. featured over 150+ resident Kannadigas from Saudi Arabia's eastern and neighboring provinces.

Dr. Shailendranath made a presentation on the program and gave useful information. Indian Social Forum Dammam, Karnataka Chapter President Sharif Joktake delivered the keynote address. General Secretary Irshad Jokatte stalled the program.

Dubai: A blood donation drive was conducted by Karnataka Sports and Cultural Club (KSCC) at in Al Wasl Club Stadium here on Friday, 26th June 2020.

The drive started around 1:00 pm and continued till 4:00 pm as per schedule provided by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) Blood Donation Centre and 60 people donated blood to support the Blood Bank. The drive was well organised by maintaining social distance in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

As blood cannot be produced but only can be donated, this drive will help many patients in need of blood during emergencies. Donors were also feeling proud and happy at this moment thinking of saving someone’s life.

DHA Blood Donation Centre staff carried out the screening and testing done in very well manner keeping social distancing during this pandemic. Volunteers of KSCC were also helping the staff to keep people in safe distance and to make this drive a success.

KSCC Manager Mr. Mohammad Shafi and other office bearers were present at the event venue. KSCC thanked the volunteers, Community Development of Authority (CDA), Dubai Health Authority (DHA), Blood Donation Centre, Government of Dubai and Al Wasl Club Stadium for making the event successful.

In a humanitarian gesture to help fellow citizens in distress, the first in the series of chartered 
flights arranged by Thumbay Group, UAE and the Bearys Cultural Forum (BCF) Trust, 
Mangalore to repatriate stranded Kannadigas in the UAE took off from Ras Al Khaimah 
International Airport in the wee hours of 21st July 2020. The flight was fully occupied, with 186 passengers, all of them desperate to fly back to India for various reasons.

The initiative was conceived and implemented under the leadership of Dr. Thumbay Moideen - Founder President of Thumbay Group & Founder Patron of BCF and Dr. B K Yusuf, the 
President of BCF. The flight was organized on a purely charitable basis, with all necessary 
steps and precautions in place to ensure the safety and comfort of passengers. Thumbay Group assigned its fleet of buses to transport the passengers free of charge from their residences in Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman to the airport. The organizers also provided free meals and refreshments to the passengers, in addition to PPE kits and face-shields distributed free of 
charges.

The passengers on the first flight included many elderly individuals, people with serious 
illnesses like heart-related health issues and diabetes, pregnant ladies and little children as well as people who had lost their jobs and those with expired visas. Dr. B K Yusuf – BCF President, Dr. Kaup Mohammed - BCF General Secretary, other office bearers of BCF, as well as Thumbay Group’s representatives Mr. Farhad C – Director of the Hospitality Division of 
Thumbay Group and Engr. Farwaz P. C. – COO of the Construction Division were present at 
the airport to see off the first group of passengers.

Commenting on the initiative, Dr. Thumbay Moideen said, “This joint initiative of Thumbay 
Group and BCF is to support our fellow Kannadigas desperate to fly back home. We are happy that we have been able to reach out to many of them, to help them fly home to their families. We thank the Governments of the UAE and India, and the Indian Consulate, Dubai, for their support in making this happen. In the coming days, many more stranded Kannadigas would be repatriated under this joint initiative.”
Dr. B K Yusuf thanked Dr. Thumbay Moideen and the office-bearers and members of BCF for 
their efforts to make the initiative a success.

“We are proud that this initiative has brought relief to many Kannadigas and their families today. BCF is grateful to Thumbay Group for its support and partnership for all our humanitarian programs for the support of the needy.”

Dr. Kaup Mohammed said that it was a matter of pride that the much-awaited Thumbay-BCF 
repatriation flight had been carried out successfully. “Measures have been taken to ensure the safety of the flight and its passengers throughout the journey,” he said. He also thanked all the social organizations including Bhatkal Jamath, BCCI, BWF, KCF, DKSC, Kodagu Kannadigas, 
Kannadiga Help Line, Dubai Konkans and KSS, for their support. He specially thanked Mr. 
Syed Hassan Razeen, the owner of ARISTOCRAT Travels for his support in the ticketing, 
boarding and related processes. On behalf of Milano Optics Group and Maxcare, free gift 
hampers were distributed to selected passengers.

The passengers were received at Mangalore airport under the leadership of Mr. Mumtaz Ali - patron of BCF and other distinguished personalities of Mangalore including Mr. Moidin Bava - former MLA, Mr U. T. Ifthikhar, Mr. S. M. R Rashid - President of BCCI central committee and many others. The passengers were transferred to the hotels where they had registered for the mandatory quarantine.

The second flight under this joint initiative is scheduled to take-off from Ras Al Khaimah airport to Mangalore on 24th July 2020. A few more similar repatriation flights are to soon follow, in the coming weeks.
