Mangaluru, Sept 12: Food and Civil Supplies Minister U T Khader has urged the Karnataka home minister Ramalinga Reddy to order a high level comprehensive probe in to the arrest of a journalist in connection with alleged desecration of Quran during a police raid in Bantwal taluk recently.
Mr Khader, told media persons in Mangaluru that he raised the issue of arrest of Imtiyaz, reporter of Vartha Barati Kannada daily in connection with the incident with the home minister and that the latter assured him to order a high level probe.
Khader said that only a comprehensive probe can clear the doubts in minds of people regarding the incident.
Imtiyaz who was arrested last week secured by a local court on Monday. According to police, Imitiyaz had planted the Quran amidst a pile of books in the house of an accused wanted in the Sharath Madivala murder case, to give an impression that police insulted the religious text.
However, the Kannada daily has termed the accusation made against its reporter by police as an “afterthought”.
