Bengaluru, Aug 30: Even as the Congress-JD(S) coalition government in Karnataka completed 100 days today, a grateful Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy called on AICC supremo Rahul Gandhi and urged him to decide on expanding the state Cabinet.

"I have requested the Congress president to take a decision on the expansion of the Cabinet and appointments to boards and corporations," Kumaraswamy told reporters here after a brief meeting with Rahul.

Kumaraswamy's discussions with Rahul came on the eve of the JD(S)-Congress Coordination Committee meeting convened to iron out the irritants in the alliance that has cropped up after former chief minister Siddaramaiah's remarks about returning as chief minister.

"The coalition government is secure under the leadership of Siddaramaiah," the chief minister said. He said Rahul was happy at the functioning of the coalition government. "Our government is stable and functioning smoothly," Kumaraswamy said.

The chief minister said he did not complain to Rahul about Siddaramaiah expressing his desire to return to power.

"Anybody can aspire to be chief minister. Even R V Deshpande can aspire to become chief minister," he said referring to the senior Congress leader who was with him.

Kumaraswamy said Siddaramaiah has already clarified that he would become chief minister after the next election if the people desire.

Kalaburagi, Mar 7: Congress and JDS MLAs are eagerly waiting to join BJP, said former minister and chairman of Nijasharana Ambigara Choudaiah Abhivradhi Nigama, Baburao Chinchansur, here on Friday.

Speaking at a press conference here, Baburao said if the BJP top brass gives a green signal to include MLAs of other parties, both Congress and JDS would be almost empty. Many leaders, including D K Shivakumar and G Parameshwara, won’t support Siddaramaiah and the former CM will have to find his own way in the coming days, he predicted. He said Congress will not be coming to power in Karnataka for the next 20 years, he said.

Chinchansur thanked Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa for providing Rs 50 crore for Nijasharana Ambigara Choudaiah Abhivrudhi Nigama in the budget. He also said that a delegation will be taken to New Delhi under the leadership of the CM, after the budget session, to pressure the Union government to include Koli community in ST category.

Dubai, Apr 18: A 47-year-old Indian worker has allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the third floor of a building here, according to a media report.

Ashokan Purushotaman, a native of Kollam in Kerala, cut the arteries in his legs and jumped from the third floor of a building in the city's Jebel Ali area on Friday, the Gulf News reported.

Purushotaman succumbed to his injuries in Rashid Hospital.

Meanwhile, Dubai Police has rejected reports that Purushotaman killed himself because he had coronavirus. Personal reasons were cited as the cause for suicide.

“His suicide is not related to COVID-19. The building is clean and there are no infection cases there. He committed suicide due to personal reasons,” director of Jebel Ali police station Brigaider Adel Al Suwaidi told the Gulf News.

Consul-General of India Vipul confirmed Purushotaman's death. “We are yet to get more information. Considering the death was of unnatural circumstances, authorities will conduct due forensic tests and provide us with more details," Vipul told the daily.
