Rahul Gandhi likely to tour coastal Karnataka on March 20, 21

Mangaluru, Mar 4: Congress supremo Rahul Gandhi, who recently toured Hyderabad-Karnataka and Mumbai-Karnataka, is expected to visit coastal districts of Karnataka in third week of March.

MLC Ivan D'Souza on Saturday told media persons here that Rahul will tour undivided Dakshina Kannada district on March 20 and 21. The exact schedule is expected to be out within a week.

Mr D'Souza accused the BJP of instigating disturbances in the state. The BJP should introspect on the law and order situation in Karnataka when the BJP had been in power. The BJP leaders should also clarify on the purpose of Jana Suraksha Yathre-Mangaluru Chalo rally, he demanded.

"The BJP leaders are frustrated and well aware that the BJP will not come to power in Karnataka in the upcoming Assembly elections. Hence, they are engaged in hate politics by raising irrelevant issues and making false allegations against the Congress-led state government," he said.

The MLC said that the Congress has tweeted 10 questions to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the issues of reduction in export, loan waiver, failure to announce support price to groundnut growers of Karnataka, step motherly attitude towards distributing grants to take up drought relief works and reduction in farm produce in the country.

The Modi-government that speaks so much against corruption has failed to pass the Jan Lokpal Bill in the Parliament, he said.

What's the point? Congress should really think about change of leadership if they want to survive in the future. Even christians and muslims in Mangalore are talking of supporting BJP, because "development". Don't know what's going on in their head.

Bengaluru, Apr 22: Former Chief Minister and the Opposition Leader in the Karnataka Assembly Siddaramaiah appealed the state government not to discriminate the poor on political lines while distributing relief package to the COVID-19 affected people in the state.

He was speaking to newsmen after attending a grocery kits distribution programme, organised in Jayanagar Assembly constituency, which was represented by the Congress MLA and former minister Ramalinga Reddy.

Charging that there are complaints about the state government in discriminating the Congress MLAs represented constituencies in providing relief kits to distribute among the poorer sections in the society, he said that “there should not be no room for politics, while fighting the COVID-19 disease”.

Mangaluru, Feb 25: The coastal city of Mangaluru today witnessed yet another major agitation against infamous CAA, NPR and NRC with large number of people gathering at Kudroli’s Tipu Sultan Garden to register their protest against union government’s racist policies.

Addressing the gathering activist B R Bhaskar Prasad said, he knows the RSS inside out as he was associated with it for a prolonged period.

He said the ultimate aim of RSS is to establish a casteist society in India with the micro-minority community of Brahmins having complete control over all other major communities. 

Lambasting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for constantly harassing people of India through back to back contentious legislations, he said that the duo poised to destroy the country.

Mangaluru/Udupi, Mar 23: The coastal district of Dakshina Kannada including the city of Mangaluru today refused to return to normalcy from yesterday’s Janata Curfew, as the government imposed lockdown in the district till the month end to contain the Covid-19 caused by the deadly novel coronavirus.

The lockdown coupled with the prohibitory orders under Section 144 has forced all the commercial establishments barring few to remain closed in the district.

The police started issuing stern warning to the people through loudspeakers against venturing out of their homes unnecessarily. People are allowed to move only in case of any emergency or basic needs.

The police warning came after a few people started ignoring the lockdown and ban orders. A few private buses also were seen plying on the roads in the morning.

Under the proibitory orders, the district administration banned from venturing out of their homes except in case of emergency or extreme necessity. All public programmes including religious ceremonies, cultural programmes also are banned. All shops, commercial establishments, workshops and godowns with other unessential goods are supposed to remain closed. Bus service, both government and private, are to suspended. Mass prayers and religious ceremonies are not allowed in temples, mosques and churches. Beaches and other tourist spots are closed.

Udupi

The lockdown in 9 districts of Karnataka has forced many private buses in Udupi to stay off the roads for second day on Monday. Some buses plying between Udupi to Kundapur have resumed service a day after Janata Curfew, with very minimum occupancy.

Due to lockdown in Dakshina Kannada, all services operating from Mangaluru to Udupi, Manipal, and Kundapur have been suspended till the month end. Buses on Karkala-Udupi route have also stopped their operations.
