Shivamogga, Apr 3: AICC President Rahul Gandhi arrived in Shivamogga and took part in roadshow as part of his fifth leg of the election campaign in the state.

The model code of conduct being in force currently, there were no banners or flex boards on the roads, to welcome him.

He was accompanied by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, KPCC President Dr G Parameshwara and others. He addressed party workers at Gopi circle.

The road show that commenced from Ashoka circle, ended at Gopi circle after passing through B H Road, Nehru Road and Amir Ahmed circle.

Rahul alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not commented on Nirav Modi and his Rs 11400 crore PNB scam because Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley's daughter works for Nirav Modi's company.

The AICC chief slammed the Modi-led central government for not fulfilling promises made during the Lok Sabha polls.

Rahul said that BJP promised 2 crore jobs would be created, farmers would be given support price and Rs 15 lakh would be credited to the bank account of each citizen of the country; during the Lok Sabha polls. But none of that was fulfilled after assuming office, he accused.

The central Modi-led government could not prevent CBSE question paper leak. "Instead Modi asks students to study well for the exam," Rahul taunted.

"On the one hand, CBSE question papers were leaked and on the other hand, election dates were leaked. This is an example of Modi's governance," the Congress chief criticised.

In his speech, KPCC President G Parameshwara dared BJP leaders to prove corruption charges made against the state government.

Kalaburagi, Mar 11: A suspected coronavirus patient who had returned to Kalaburagi from Saudi Arabia on February 29 passed away today in hospital.

It is said he was admitted to the hospital on March 5 after he showed flu symptoms. But, the family members of the patient had shifted him to Hyderabad from GIMS on Tuesday against the advice of the doctors.

However, the district administration and District Health Officer (DHO) M A Jabbar are waiting for the final report of throat swab of the patient sent for lab test.

The DHO has directed Taluk Health Officer Sharanabasappa Kyatanal to supervise until the final rites of the suspect person were performed.

Kalaburagi Deputy Commissioner B Sharat said the patient died on Tuesday night on his way back to Kalaburagi after the doctor stated that chances of his survival was bleak. "It is still a suspected coronavirus case. We are waiting for the report," he said.

Sharat said he developed severe respiratory problem coupled with cough, cold and fever. "As he was 76-year-old, he failed to respond to the treatment. It is yet to be confirmed if the cause of death was coronavirus," he said.
