Bengaluru, Mar 20: Determined to keep the BJP at bay and secure maximum number of seats for the Congress-JD(S) alliance in the Lok Sabha elections, AICC president Rahul Gandhi will launch a joint-election campaign on March 31 in Karnataka.

Speaking with UNI here on Wednesday, the AICC Secretary Suraj Hegde pointed out, "Our president Rahulji will blow the election trumpet at a public meeting which would be attended by all the top leaders of the coalition partners, JD(S) and Congress."

"The public meeting would be organised either in Mysuru or Bengaluru," Mr Hegde, one of the aspirants for the Mysuru Lok Sabha seat in the Congress, added.

Expressing a strong confidence that the Congress-JD(S) alliance would sweep the elections in Karnataka, Mr Hegde said, "A co-ordinated joint campaign plan will be made to reach out the voters in the state."

The performance of the Congress-JD(S) government in the state, and the failure of the NDA government at the Center in all sphere would be the poll plank for the coming elections.

"The people of the state are well aware about the ill-design of the communal forces and will support the Congress-JD(S) candidates in the elections" he said.

It may be recalled that both the Congress and the JD(S) which had formed the coalition government in the state in May last year, have come together to fight the Lok Sabha elections jointly and agreed for a seat sharing arrangement.

The Congress will fight in 20 Lok Sabha seats, while JD(S) will contest in the remaining eight seats in Karnataka, where elections will be held in two phases on April 18 and 23 respectively.

Hassan, Feb 9: Accusing the Centre for treating Karnataka as its enemy Former Minister and Congress leader UT Khader on Saturday said that the state did not get support from the Centre on the Mahadayi issue and flood relief and even the Union Budget.

Speaking to the media here, he said that the state has elected 25 BJP Lok Sabha members. Three from the state were Ministers in the Union Cabinet and another MP has been appointed president of the party’s state unit.

'None of them have spoken about the injustice done to the state in the budget. The budget document announced Rs 18,600 crore for the suburban railway in Bengaluru. But, ultimately the amount earmarked for the project is only Rs 1 crore. How can any BJP leader justify this?', the Congress leader wondered.
