Rains lash parts of Kasaragod

May 9, 2017

Kasargod, May 9: The district, reeling under gruelling summer days, received long-awaited summer showers providing much needed respite to sultry conditions.

The unexpected showers, that began at a moderate pace around 11 p.m. on Sunday, gradually gained momentum.

The rain was accompanied by strong lightning and winds and lasted for over an hour.

Noticeably, Kanhangad and nearby localities received heavy rains that stretched well beyond 12.15 a.m. on Monday. The temperature plummeted in the area. Kasaragod town and nearby localities received moderate rains.

The hilly areas in the district, however, received moderate rains disappointing the farmers. With the skies remaining by and large overcast all through the day on Monday, the water-starved residents are virtually hoping for another spell of rains either tonight or in the coming days.

The summer showers this season provided relief to residents who were helpless, as they were not able to irrigate standing crops especially coconut and areca nuts.

No loss of property or damage to standing crops were reported owing to the showers.
