Rajasthan Royals breeze to comprehensive 62-run victory against Delhi Daredevils in IPL 2014

Rajasthan_RoyalsAhmedabad, May 16: Rajasthan Royals are within touching distance of securing a play-off spot with a comprehensive 62-run victory over Delhi Daredevils in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2014. Ajinkya Rahane and Sanju Samson‘s fluent knocks took Rajasthan Royals to a massive 201 for six after being put into bat by Kevin Pietersen.

Rajasthan started terribly by Ben Cutting dropping a sitter of Mayank Agarwal in the deep at fine leg. The Australian was comfortably placed at fine leg but made a mess of it. Cutting’s evening turned from bad to worse as Mayank Agarwal spanked some lovely shots to keep Delhi in the hunt. Agarwal’s joy was short lived as he could not clear Steven Smith at mid on off the bowling.

Pietersen’s miserable run continued and along with Dinesh Karthik, were unable to find the boundaries chasing a huge score and were already facing a tall order. A couple of bizzare incidents happened on the field. First was Pietersen not grounding the bat and the ball hitting the stumps. There was a faint appeal from the Rajasthan fielders but the umpires did not budge.

Delhi Daredevils crawled along and Dinesh Karthik ran out of patience and pulled straight to Ben Cutting at fine leg. JP Duminy came at the crease and the batsmen are trying to steady the ship after the early couple of blows. After hitting a big six over long on and Duminy perished after chipping the ball straight to Karun Nair. What followed was a flurry of wickets which led to a free-fall with Manoj Tiwary giving stiff resistance while wickets were falling like nine pins at the other end.

The impressive Kedar Jadhav was unfortunately run-out at because of miscommunication with the non-striker and Shahbaz Nadeem and Imran Tahir also tried to hit out and disappeared. Tiwary rallied around the tail and reached his half-century but Delhi slumped to yet another loss and Rajasthan would have been mighty pleased with the massive run-rate margin of their victory.

Brief scores:

Rajasthan Royals 201 for 6 in 20 overs (Ajinkya Rahane 64, Kevon Cooper 32, Sanju Samson 40; Imran Tahir 2 for 25, Shahbaz Nadeem 2 for 35) beat Delhi Daredevils 139 for 9 in 20 overs (Mayank Agarwal 17, Manoj Tiwary 61*, Rahul Shukla 14; Rajat Bhatia 2 for 18) by 62 runs.

Man of the Match : Ajinkya Rahane

Karachi, Apr 14: Disappointed with Kapil Dev's response, Pakistan's Shahid Afridi has backed his former teammate Shoaib Akhtar's proposal for an ODI series against India to help raise funds for the less privileged in their fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Afridi told reporters in Kohat that he was surprised by the comments of Indian great Kapil and former IPL chairman, Rajeev Shukla, who outrightly dismissed Akhtar's suggestion.

"The entire world is fighting against coronavirus and we need unity in our region to defeat this common enemy. Such negative comments don't help at all," Afridi said.

"I don't see anything wrong with Shoaib Akhtar's suggestion for Pakistan and India to play cricket.

"Kapil's reaction has surprised me. I expected better from him and feel one should not talk like this in these crisis times."

Afridi said that he was also surprised at some of the "negative comments" Indian stars Harbhajan Singh and Yuvraj Singh's support for his charity foundation attracted.

"Sport is supposed to bring people together and build bridges. It is pretty disappointing."

Afridi also urged Prime Minister Imran Khan to order the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to restore departmental cricket in the country to save the livelihood of hundreds of domestic players.

"I myself played for the departments and witnessed how departments really salvaged domestic cricket in Pakistan and helped it thrive decade after decade.

"Departments take good care of the players and spend lots of money on the development of domestic cricket, so how can departmental cricket hurt Pakistan cricket," questioned Afridi.

He also questioned the PCB and the Pakistan team management for making a fitness of players a big issue.

"They are always talking about hard training and fitness tests. I have never seen fitness tests taken with such frequency and the result is that many players are getting injured and many of them are also unhappy with the situation."

Dubai, Jan 15: India skipper and batting mainstay Virat Kohli was on Wednesday named captain of the International Cricket Council's ODI and Test teams of the year, capping off a memorable season for the world No.1.

Apart from Kohli, there were four other Indians who were picked in the ICC's Test and ODI Teams of the Year.

While the Test team featured double-centurion Mayank Agarwal, opener Rohit Sharma, speedster Mohammed Shami and left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav found a place in the ODI side.

Kohli enjoyed a tremendous run in both the formats in 2019. The 31-year-old hit his seventh Test double hundred on the way to a career-best unbeaten 254 against South Africa in October last year.

It was a breakthrough year for opener Agarwal, who smashed two double tons, one century and went beyond the fifty-run mark twice. He hit a career-best score of 243 against Bangladesh in November.

Kuldeep, too, enjoyed a memorable year as he joined the golden list of bowlers with two hat-tricks. The chinaman claimed his second ODI hat-trick of his career against the West Indies last month.
