Riyadh: Karavali Welfare Association Riyadh (KWAR) conducted its eighth annual general body meeting on June 11 at Al FakhraIsthrah in Riyadh. Even though most parents were busy with their ward’s examinations, a good number of people took part in the meeting.

Rajesh Kumar, president, KWAR, in his key note speech stressed the need for unity within the association and thanked all the office bearers, executive members, members and well-wishers who supported him during his tenure.

Nazeer Ahmed, general secretary, KWAR, briefed the audience about the programmes, achievements and charity works carried out by the association during the period 2014-2015.

Shashidhar Haridas, treasurer, KWAR, briefed the financial statements, which reflected all the positive financial aspect of KWAR as a successful organization.

The outgoing president dissolved all the committees and sub-committees. A specially appointed election committee represented by Ramesh Shetty, former president of KWAR and Jagadish Shetty, president, BARSA, conducted the election in a very transparent way.

As expected, president Rajesh Kumar, vice-president Santosh Shetty, treasurer Shashidhar Haridas and joint treasurer Alfred Menezes were re-elected to their posts for the next term.

Programme host Mahesh Hegde thanked both the election officers for successfully carrying out the election procedures and ensuring unity among KWAR members.

In the beginning Mahesh Hegde, one of the active members of KWAR delivered welcome address. Vice-president Santhosh Shetty formally proposed vote of thanks. The meeting concluded with the recitation of national anthem.

The new committee had its first opportunity to help the family of David Monteiro, an expatriate worker, who died in a road accident recently. Monteiro, had landed in Saudi Arabia just a year ago and he was working an electrician in a wedding hall in Buraidah. He is survived by his wife and paralyses-stricken mother. KWAR decided to give Rs 25,000 as an immediate assistance to his family back in Mangaluru and promised to raise more funds in the coming days.

Dubai, May 20: Dubai-based Karnataka Sports and Cultural Club’s humanitarian services in charge Naseer Karaje team have appreciated the efforts of Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner, Mangaluru Airport director, NGOs of Mangaluru, and MLA for extending a royal welcome to second batch of repatriates from Dubai that landed at Mangaluru Airport on May 18.

There was so much of confusions when 1st batch of repatriation flight landed in Mangaluru airport on 12th May due to lack of proper arrangements and co ordination.

This time due to proper arrangements and special supervision by the DC everything was driven smoothly. It has given a confidence to all the Manglurean expats of Dubai in returning to their native places, the KSCC said.

The Overseas Indian Cultural Congress (OICC), Bahrain, has charted aircrafts to repatriate stranded expatriates to India. 

Boby Parayil, General Secretary, OICC National Committee, Bahrain has thanked all those who supported in this cause.

“The aircrafts were not licensed and were in crisis until the last minute. Finally, Mohammed Mansoor, president of Bahrain chapter of Indian Overseas Congress approached IOC Middle East in charge Dr Arathi Krishna, who helped get permission to operate flight to Kozhikode,” he said in a release. 

All mandatory approvals from the Foreign Ministry of Affairs and other government officials were accomplished by Dr Arathi Krishna. OICC has expressed gratitude to her for her timely support, he said. 

OICC is also grateful to former Kerala chief minister Oommen Chandy for doing necessary arrangements to get all the approvals for flight landing in Kerala, he added.

Dr Soofi Anwar, Director Academics of University of Stirling RAK, UAE Campus, has achieved the prestigious professional recognition of Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) UK. He has achieved this milestone through the Stirling Framework for Evidencing Learning and Teaching Enhancement (SFELTE), the Continuing Professional Development Framework (CPD) for learning and teaching at University of Stirling, Scotland, UK. 

He was recognized for this achievement on recently concluded virtual Learning & Teaching Conference-2020 organized by University of Stirling Campus in UK.  He has secured his Ph.D. in Management from University of Azteca, Mexico.

Dr. Soofi Anwar has over 20 years of experience in teaching and academic leadership at higher education level and has worked in leading universities in UAE, Bahrain and India. He was conferred the prestigious Middle East Education Leadership Award, as the Best Professor in Management-2018 in recognition of his academic excellence, exemplary leadership in higher education. Prior to his current role, he has worked on leadership position in Birla Institute of Technology Offshore Campus RAK.

He has completed his MBA from Dept. of Business Administration, Mangalore University in 1999 and his B. Com degree from Canara College Mangaluru.

He has published numerous research papers in management and in the area of teaching and learning in higher education in reputed academic journals and international conferences proceedings. He is a member of editorial board of two leading management journals and engaged in reviewing faculty research publications in the area of management and marketing. 

He is a son of Haji Abdul Khadar Kodijal and Mrs. Mariyamma from Konaje, Mangaluru.
