Mangaluru, May 6: It’s official. Muslims in coastal Karnataka and Kerala will fast on Monday, May 6, official declaration by Twaka Ahmed Musliyar, khazi of Mangaluru. Ramzan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and is observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting to commemorate the first revelation of Quran to Muhammad according to Islamic belief and lasts 29 to 30 days depending on the sighting of the moon.
Religious scholars in Saudi Arabia and a few Middle Eastern countries yesterday had declared that Monday will be the start of the month of fasting.
In Kerala and twin districts of coastal Karnataka - Dakshina Kannada and Udupi- the announcement was made on Sunday evening after moon sighting in a few places in Kerala.
