Rampal Jat quits BJP over farmers' issues, joins AAP

Jaipur, Oct 17: BJP leader and Kisan Mahapanchayat founder Rampal Jat joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Wednesday after accusing the saffron party of "neglecting" farmers' issues.

"Issues of farmers were being neglected in the BJP government. I have been raising issues to make farmers self-reliant and Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje had said that there will not be any difference in words and deeds, but issues were neglected," Jat said at a press conference after joining the AAP. 

He said development of the country was not possible without focusing on the farmers' issues and alleged that they were "being neglected" under the BJP rule.

He said that ideology of AAP matches his thinking so he joined the party.

The farmer leader who has been demanding implementation of Swaminathan Commission and Farmers' Security Act said people of the state "want to get rid of the BJP and the Congress and the AAP was a strong alternative".

New Delhi, Feb 17: Two alleged criminals were killed in an exchange of fire with the Special Cell of Delhi Police at Pul Pehlad Pur area in New Delhi on Monday morning, officials said.

The encounter took place around 5 am, they said.

Raja Qureshi and Ramesh Bahadur, who were injured during the encounter, were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they were declared brought dead by doctors, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) P S Kushwah said.

According to police, the two men were involved in multiple cases of murder and robbery.

New Delhi, May 21: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday paid tributes to Rajiv Gandhi on his death anniversary.

Former prime minister Gandhi was assassinated on this day in 1991 in Tamil Nadu's Sriperumbudur by a suicide bomber during an election campaign.
 
"On his death anniversary, tributes to former PM Shri Rajiv Gandhi," Modi tweeted.

New Delhi, Apr 13: India's tally of positive COVID-19 cases rose to 9,152 following an increase of 796 cases in the last 24 hours, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Monday.

Out of the total number of cases, 7,987 patients are active cases while 857 cases have been cured/discharged and migrated.

With 35 deaths in the last 24 hours, the death toll mounted to 308.

According to the ministry, Maharashtra remained at the top with the total cases at 1,985, including 217 patients who have recovered/discharged and 149 patients died.

Delhi's tally of positive COVID-19 cases rose to 1,154 cases, including 27 recovered and 24 patients succumbing to the virus.

Tamil Nadu too reported 1,075 cases, including 50 recovered and 11 patients dead.

Meanwhile, four states have crossed the 500 mark with regards to the total number of cases as Rajasthan recorded 804 cases, Madhya Pradesh with 532 cases, Gujarat with 516 cases and Telangana with 504 cases, as per the ministry.
