Mandya, Sep 27: Film star-turned politician Ramya, in her latest Facebook post, has sought to find an answer to the Cauvery water sharing dispute.

The former Mandya MP revealed that she has written a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting him for his intervention.

Here is her full post:

We all know by now that the Cauvery dispute is based on a faulty agreement.

There are certain changes and alterations to be made, most importantly on distress sharing- for eg read the Final Order of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal dated 05.02.2007

-If yield of Cauvery basin is less in a distress year, the allocated shares shall be proportionately reduced among the States proportionate sharing does not calculate ground reality. This is what is causing all the problems.

Luckily for us, there is Clause XX

Clause XX of the Cauvery verdict –

Nothing contained herein shall prevent the alteration, amendment or modification of all or any of the foregoing clauses by agreement between the parties.

The Cauvery dispute will continue if we don't make the changes to the agreement, therefore it is imperative that the Prime Minister intervene in this matter, by bringing the Chief Ministers of both the states ('the parties' as in the agreement) of Tamilnadu Dr. J. Jayalalitha and Karnataka Shri. Siddaramiah together and put an end to the Cauvery dispute.

They can once and for all come up with a distress sharing formula that is agreeable to both. (The Chief Minister of Karnataka has written a letter to Shri. Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India but he has not responded as yet.)

I have written a memorandum to the Prime Minister requesting him for his valuable time and intervention, attached below.

What should you do? The one reading this- I request you all to please take a copy of this memorandum to your respective MP's in Karnataka and get their signatures.

You may then please upload a picture of the same with the MP and their signature on the memorandum on your social media profile #togetherforcauvery

Do email us a copy [email protected] will collate and put them together for submission before the Honourable Prime Minister of India, Shri. Narendra Modi.

If we all come together as people, setting aside our political differences for the sake of the people of Karnataka and Cauvery, we can make this happen- Imagine no more fighting over Cauvery-a 124 year old dispute can end!!

We can celebrate 125th year as an end to the dispute. Get started on those signatures.

Mangaluru, Jun 19: Mohammad Haneef Guddemane, a cattle trader, who was thrashed by the miscreants of Bajrang Dal while legally transporting cattle last weekend, today appeared before media and demanded appropriate action against the assailants.

The attack took place on June 14 at Urwa in the city when he was transporting four buffalos along with all necessary documents. The attack was also captured on a CCTV camp.

The victim, who addressed a press conference today, said that it was not the first time he is transporting cattle as into animal and husbandry for years.

“I had bought 10 she-buffaloes on June 13 from Ranennur and obtained certificate from the local government veterinary doctor after which the animals were brought to my village,” said Haneef, who is a resident of Jokatte on the outskirts of the city.

He said that he was transporting four out of the ten she buffaloes he had bought to the slaughterhouse at Mangaluru on June 14 when a gang of around 15 members which intercepted his vehicles near Urwa police station dragged him out of the vehicle, rained abusive words at him, made blasphemous remarks about his religion, and hit him with a helmet besides kicking him.

He said that three of the assailants were armed with sabre, iron rod and wooden sticks.

"They also tied me to the vehicle and assaulted. They also attacked me with their arms but I escaped. Their plan was to kill me. Fortunately, the police reached the spot and the assailants escaped. However, they thoroughly damaged my vehicle and robbed Rs 7,800 I had with me. I got treated at Highland Hospital in the city," he stated.

Expressing shock over the soft corner approach of the police towards the assailants, he said that only six of around 15 attackers were booked by the police.

“All the accused were let off by the police after registering petty cases. Ironically, the police had not recorded my statement. On the day of attack, they had asked me to sign on a paper. It contained the complaint written by themselves. Hence, on June 17 I visited the Urwa police station and recorded my statement,” he said.

He said that even though he has all the documents pertaining to the cattle that he had purchased, the police had registered false cattle theft charge against him.

Former city mayor K Ashraf, Hyder, bother of the victim and Shamsuddin, Jokatte gram panchayat vice president were present at the press meet.

Mangaluru, July 30: The Social Democratic Party of India has condemned the move by the state government to drop a lesson on legendary Mysuru rulers Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan from the class 7 textbook.

The Department of Public Instruction has omitted the chapter from the textbooks of Class 7 in their attempt to reduce syllabus for state board schools by 30 per cent.

The department, however, has decided to retain similar chapters on Tipu Sultan in 6th and 10th Classes, though the syllabus in text books for all classes from 1 to 10th has been trimmed.

In a media release statement, SDPI State President Ilyas Mohammed Thumbe termed the move as communally motivated. “By dropping the lesson, the BJP-led government is engaged in saffronisation of education,” he alleged.

He said that Tipu was the most prominent freedom fighter, who had given priority to irrigation, rocket technology and harmony. The BJP government is also planning to scrap lessons on the Constitution, secularism and democracy. By twisting history, the BJP is trying to mislead the younger generation, he added.
