Rape accused injures himself in police custody

Puttur: A man, arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor girl, reportedly injured himself while in police custody in Puttur Town on Wednesday.

Shamsher Khan, 50, had been accused of sexually assaulting the girl for over a year. In her complaint to the Puttur Town police, the girl accused Khan of giving her sedatives before sexually assaulting her.

She accused him of showing her pornographic content on his mobile phone and on television and threatening her to conduct herself in the same way. She accused him of making indecent advances towards her several times including on April 17. She also alleged that he caused burns on her body using a Beedi butt.

The police arrested him on Wednesday and kept him in the lock-up. He then reportedly banged his head on the bars. The police took him to the local government hospital where he was given treatment.

Khan has been accused under the POCSO Act, 2012, and sections 376 (1) and 376(C) of the IPC.

Bengaluru, April 3: Central Crime Branch (CCB) Bengaluru has arrested two persons for allegedly possessing illicit liquor.

The probe team also allegedly seized bottles worth Rs 1.25 lakhs from their possession on Thursday.

A case has been registered against the accused and investigation into the matter is underway, Sandeep Patil, Joint Commissioner of Police informed news agency.

Mangaluru, July 14: Melkar  Women's PU college has achieved excellent pass percentage in II PUC examinations, the results of which were announced today.

As many as 140 students of the college had appeared for second PU board exam 2020 this year. The college secured 95% results in the current academic year.

Among them 24 students passed with distinction and 94 with with first class marks.

Fathima Nisha (558 in Arts),

Zaithunnisa (561 in commerce) and Zainaba ifrath (545 in science) are the toppers of respective sections in the college.
