Rape of nun by Bishop: Witnesses are in extreme fear

Kottayam, Mar 17: Sister Anupama, one of the four nuns who protested against Bishop Franco Mulakkal for allegedly raping a 44-year-old nun, on Sunday expressed disappointment over the delay in filing the charge-sheet against the accused.

Speaking to media persons, Sister Anupama said: 'We witnesses are in extreme fear. The investigation of this case is over, and the charge-sheet was to be filed in the court. Due to some reasons, the charge-sheet is getting delayed."

Two months back there was an attempt to transfer us all to various parts of the country and to isolate the complainant nun. We want the charge-sheet to be filed as soon as possible and the safety of witnesses. Don't know how long well be able to withstand the situation: she said.

The statement from sister Anupama came after five nuns including she approached Kottayam Superintendents of Police (SP) to submit a petition seeking a speedy submission of the charge-sheet against Bishop Franco Mulakkal.

Mulakkal has been accused of raping a nun several times between 2014 and 2016 and is currently out on bail.

Tanveer Sait says probe tardy in case regarding attack on him

Mysuru, Mar 7: Former minister and senior Congress leader and sitting MLA Tanveer Sait has shot off a letter to state Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai expressing his dissatisfaction over the slow progress in the investigations regarding the attack on him.

In the letter, which he released to the press on Saturday, he claimed that although the police have already arrested the culprit, but it is yet to find the real masterminds, leaders or organisation behind the attack.

Mr Sait urged the Home Minister to request the police to speed up their investigation and solve the case at the earliest and give him justice.

Indian Muslim body issues fatwa to boycott Chinese goods

Bareilly, Jun 22: The All India Tanzeem Ulama-e-Islam, a religious and social organisation headed by five senior clerics, has issued a fatwa to boycott Chinese products in the country.

The clerics said the community members should stand with the army and government in this hour.

Expressing concern over India-China face-off, National general secretary of All India Tanzeem Ulama-e-Islam, Maulana Shahbuddin Rizvi expressed concern over the India-China face-off and said, "A fatwa has been passed for boycotting Chinese products on a query posted by a Bareilly-based resident. The clerics in the fatwa have condemned the conspiracy of China to encroach upon Indian land and the killing of our brave soldiers."

The panel of five clerics include national president of All India Tanzeem Ulama-e-Islam Mufti Ashfaq Hussain Qadri, Mufti Iqbal Ahmad Misbahi, Mufti Tauqir Ahmad Qadri, Mufti Hashim Raza Khan and Qari Saghir Ahmad Rizvi.

With 23 fresh covid-19 cases Dakshina Kannada’s tally crosses 400-mark

Mangaluru Jun 18: Dakshina Kannada on Thursday, June 18, reported 23 fresh covid-19 cases, taking the total number of the cases detected in the district to 401.

Among the 23 corona-positive patients, there are 21 males and two females.

21 are Saudi returnees, while the other two have contracted infection from P-6618.

No cases were reported in Udupi district on Thursday.

The total number of cases in Udupi is 1,039, with only 92 cases being currently active. As many as 946 patients including 38 on Thursday who recovered have been discharged from hospital.
