Ravi Belagere-Anil Raj case: HC orders notice to assembly, speaker, state govt

Bengaluru, Nov 30: The Karnataka high court on Thursday ordered notice to legislative assembly, its speaker, state government and three complainants in response to the petition filed by journalists Ravi Belagere and Anil Raj.

'Hi Bangalore' editor Ravi Belagere and 'Yelahanka Voice' editor Anil Raj had moved the court challenging their conviction and punishment of imprisonment for a year ordered by the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. They were held guilty of breach of privilege over alleged defamatory articles about the legislators.

Justice A S Boppanna said that this matters needs detailed consideration. He said that the all parties should be magnanimous in this matter until this case is before the court.

Adjourning the hearing on Wednesday, Justice A S Bopanna observed that everybody's privilege be protected. This was when counsel for petitioners prayed the court for granting interim order saying that the duo may be arrested as the assembly has reaffirmed the decision imposing one year rigorous imprisonment and Rs 10,000 sentence imposed on them.

Bengaluru, Jan 16: It was necessary to revise rates under the ECHS, CGHS and GIPSA schemes for private hospitals to be able to sustain, doctors from private hospitals have opined.

Under the banner of the Association of Healthcare Providers of India (AHPI), doctors from top private hospitals in the city spoke about the dues pending from the union government schemes. They said they could not give a deadline as to when they would stop offering the scheme.

In a press release issued here on Thursday association said, which had previously told the government that they would not treat patients under the scheme owing to dues, mellowed down after the government released Rs 250 crore out of the Rs 1,000 crore dues.

Mangaluru, Mar 22: A video being circulated in the social media purportedly of a man infected with COVID-19 at a hospital here is fake, its authorities said.

The video which shows a youth, dressed in pink trousers and wearing a mask, struggling to breathe on a blue hospital bed, had gone viral after which the Wenlock hospital issued a clarification.

The video started circulating after Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner made public Sunday that a person has tested positive for coronavirus at the hospital.

"A video of a patient convulsing on a hospital bed is being circulated on social media. This video is not of Wenlock hospital. Besides, we do not use blue beds," the hospital said in a statement, adding that they will file a complaint with the police regarding the video.

The first COVID-19 case in the district was confirmed at the hospital on Sunday.

The 22-year old man who came here from Dubai was tested positive and is under treatment in the isolation ward.

Kasaragod, Apr 7: The new COVID Hospital at the Kasaragod Medical College has started functioning, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said on Monday.

The new administrative block of Kasaragod Medical College was converted into a COVID-19 Hospital for providing better treatment facilities to the coronavirus patients, the Chief Minister said while addressing a press conference at the Government Secretariat.

Stating that the hospital was converted to a Corona Care Hospital in just four days, he said 200 beds and 10 ICU beds are now ready.
