Mangaluru, Jan 20: Within six months of his posting, Superintendent of Police, Dakshina Kannada, C.H. Sudheer Kumar Reddy, was transferred to Belagavi district.
B.R. Ravikanthe Gowda, Superintendent of Police, Belagavi, would replace Mr. Reddy, according to a notification from the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms, Bengaluru, issued on Saturday.
Mr. Reddy’s transfer came as a surprise for many. His predecessor Bhushan Gulabrao Borase too was shifted hurriedly when communal tension gripped Bantwal taluk, the home turf of district in-charge Minister B. Ramanath Rai.
It could be recalled here that Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy during his Mangaluru visit last week had denied rumours of some politicians trying for the transfer of the SP.
Mr. Reddy is a 2010 batch IPS officer. A native of Andhra Pradesh he had learnt Tulu, the language of the region. Mr. Gowda, a 2005 batch IPS officer, is a native of Mandya district and holds a doctorate degree in literature.
Though some attribute Mr. Reddy’s transfer to pressure from the sand mafia, thriving in the coastal regulation zone (CRZ) in the district, Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy described it as a “routine exercise.”
Asked about the transfer, he said Mr. Gowda had completed three years in Belagavi (since September 17, 2014) and had to be transferred before the polls. Belagavi too is a sensitive district like Dakshina Kannada and a tough officer, like Mr. Gowda, had to be posted and the government chose Mr. Reddy, the Home Minister said.
