Mangaluru, Jun 1: Ivan D'Souaz, chief whip of the government in state legislative council, has expressed his desire to contest next assembly polls.
Responding to the queries of media persons in the city on Thursday, Mr D'Souza said that he is ready to contest from any assembly constituency in 2018 polls.
“There are no chances of early elections in state as chief minister Siddaramaiah led government will complete its tenure. I am ready contest from any constituency in next polls. High command has to take a call,” he said.
In 2008, D'Souza was defeated by BJP's Yogish Bhat in Christian dominant Mangaluru South constituency. Though he had lobbied hard for the ticket in 2013 too, the Congress had fielded J R Lobo, who managed to defeat Mr Bhat.
Mr D'Souza was nominated to the Karnataka legislative council by the Congress in 2014. He was made chief whip in 2016.
52-year-old D'Souza was born in Mudarangady, in Udupi District. He obtained his LLB degree from SDM Law College in Manglauru in 1989. He began his leadership through Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) organization from Mudarangady parish. He began his political career in 1992.
