Bengaluru, Sept 8: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday said that his government is open to hand over the Gauri Lankesh murder probe to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), if her family members insisted on it.
Addressing the reporters at his official residence ‘Krishna,’ Siddaramaiah said that Gauri’s family members so far had not approached him with such a request.
Stating that he had watched television interviews of Indrajit Lankesh (Gauri’s brother), seeking a CBI probe, Siddaramaiah reiterated he was ready to oblige such a request, if only her family made such an appeal to the government.
“I have visited Gauri’s family members and spoken to them. If they had asked for a CBI probe, the government would have relented. But since they didn’t make any such appeal, the SIT probe was ordered,” he said.
Replying to a query, Siddaramaiah said that the Centre had not sought any report pertaining to Gauri’s killing.
On Indrajit’s suspicion that naxalites may have shot dead, the chief minister said that the SIT was looking into all angles.
