Mangaluru, Dec 10: Assuring that Islamic Shariah will not face any threat in India until it upholds Dr B R Ambedkar’s constitution, Congress leader and Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister U T Khader said that no Prime Minister can interfere in internal affairs of the Muslim community.

Mr Khader, who is also the minister for urban development and housing, was addressing a massive crowd gathered at the Shariah Protection Conference organized by the Shariah Protection Committee of Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama at Nehru Maidan in the city.

“I don’t want to name anyone. But, let me assure you one thing: Not just this PM, even hundred such PMs cannot change Shariah until we protect our constitution. Hence, Shariah is not facing any threat in this country. If such a situation arises, I am ready to sacrifice my life, not just power,” he said.

Inaugurating the event, Sayyid Jifri Mutthukoya Thangal, president of Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama, said that Shairah will remain intact till the end of the universe as the creator of the universe and shariah is one and the same.

He said that the Constitution has entitled equal rights to the people of each religion. Hence, Muslims too have all the rights to lead life as per Shariah rulings.

Stating that Islam has never encouraged talaq or divorce, he said some people have been creating confusion in the society in the name of talaq. “It is the responsibility of administration to protect minorities in any country. The governments have to understand this basic thing. At this critical time, Samastha is ready to take any challenges to protect the interests of Muslim community,” he said.

‘Nanna mattu Vidyabhyasada Kathe’, an autobiography of former Dakshina Kannada Khazi Shaheed C M Abdulla Musliyar, was released by Yenepoya University vice chancellor Y Abdulla Kunhi. The first copy of the book was received by CM Shafi, son of CM Abdulla Musliyar.

Prior to this, a rally was conducted from Ambedkar Circle to Nehru Maidan. Dakshina Kannada Khazi Twaka Ahmed Musliyar flagged off the rally.

Kozhikode, Jun 9: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's daughter Veena T is all set to marry DYFI National President and CPM state committee member PA Muhammad Riyas on June 15. Interestingly, it's the second marriage for both.

Veena, the elder daughter of Pinarayi Vijayan and Kamala Vijayan, is an IT entrepreneur based in Bengaluru.

According to sources, the marriage will be a simple function in Thiruvananthapuram where only close relatives will participate. The marriage registration has already been done.

"It's only a private affair of two individuals," Riyas told media persons, reluctant to divulge more details.

The 44-year-old Muhammad Riyas started his political career with the Students Federation of India (SFI) and climbed up the rungs through DYFI. He had unsuccessfully contested against UDF's M K Raghavan from Kozhikode parliament constituency in 2009.

The son of retired IPS officer P M Abdul Khadar, Riyas is the familiar face of the left in primetime TV discussions, strongly articulating the CPM stance.

A law graduate, he had begun at the grassroots level and gradually worked his way up the ladder.

His marriage to Dr Sameeha Saithalavi, a former syndicate member of Calicut University, happened in 2002. The couple separated in 2015 and they have two sons aged 10 and 13.

The 40-plus Veena is MD of the IT firm Exalogic Solutions since 2014.

Prior to that, she was the CEO of RT Technosoft, a Thiruvananthapuram-based company owned by NRI industrialist Ravi Pillai. Before that, she had a six-year stint with Oracle. She has a son from her first marriage.

"They both were divorced for more than five years. They knew each other and the marriage decision was taken by them only. It's completely a private affair," said a DYFI leader.

New Delhi, Feb 17: Four death row convicts in the 2012 Nirbhaya gang rape and murder will be hanged on March 3 at 6 am a Delhi court said on Monday.

The Patiala House Court on Monday issued fresh death warrants against four convicts while hearing a petition by the state and Nirbhaya's parents.

Earlier, Delhi High Court on February 5 granted a week's time to the four convicts to avail of all legal remedies available to them and said that the convicts cannot be hanged separately since they were convicted for the same crime.

A Delhi Court had earlier issued a death warrant against the four convicts -- Vinay Sharma, Akshay Thakur, Pawan Gupta, and Mukesh Singh -- on January 7 and they were scheduled to be executed on January 22 at Tihar Jail. Later, the execution was suspended indefinitely by a Delhi court.
