Ready to undergo polygraph test in abduction case: Dileep

Thiruvanathapuram, Jun 26: Popular Malayalam actor Dileep on Monday said he was ready to undergo a polygraph test to prove his innocence with regard to his alleged involvement in the case of molestation of a top actress, in Kochi.dileep

The actor’s response, posted on his official Facebook page, comes after recent revelations in the case that yet again placed him under the scanner over his alleged links with the key suspect in the case, Sunilkumar aka Pulsar Suni.

“Brain mapping, narco-analysis or polygraph test, I’m ready for anything. Not to make anyone else the accused, only to prove my innocence,” Dileep said. The actor, in a police complaint, said a prison-mate of Suni demanded Rs 1.5 crore from him to not name him in the case. Television channels have also released telephonic conversations between Suni and one of Dileep’s associates in which Suni is heard making similar demands. According to the police, the actress was molested in a moving car by Suni on the night of February 17.

Reports that Suni and his associates were hired to abduct and molest the 30-year-old actress had led to allegations on the involvement of Dileep who had a reported professional rift with the actress. “People involved in this campaign against me want my viewers to distance themselves from me,” Dileep said in his Facebook post. The actor said despite his innocence, he was being targeted by a group of people who wanted his upcoming film, Ramaleela, and subsequent releases to fail.

New Delhi, Jul 2: India's COVID-19 tally breached the 6 lakh cases mark with 19,148 new coronavirus cases being reported in the last 24 hours, informed the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Thursday.

The total cases now stand at 6,04,641 of which there are 2,26,947 active cases while 3,59,860 patients have been cured/discharged/migrated.

434 deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours taking the number of COVID-19 deaths in the country to 17,834.

Maharashtra, the worst-hit state, has a total of 1,80,298 cases including 8,053 fatalities. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu has 94,049 cases inclusive of 1,264 deaths.

Delhi has 89,802 coronavirus cases including 2,803 deaths.

Thane, Feb 28: Former BJP MLA Narendra Mehta was on Friday charged for allegedly  raping and harassing a woman corporator in Bhayandar, which is in the Thane district near Mumbai, on Friday, police said.

His associate Sanjay Tharthare has also been charged in the case, they said.

The district rural police lodged an FIR against Narendra Mehta, who resigned from the BJP three days ago, and his associate, an official from the Mira-Bhayandar police station said.

No arrest has been made till now.

A video of the corporator purportedly speaking about the alleged harassment and abuse she suffered at the hands of Narendra Mehta went viral on social media two days ago, the official said.

The corporator has alleged that the abuse is going on since 1999 and her family is facing threats from him, he added.

Narendra Mehta and Sanjay Tharthare were charged under relevant section of the Indian Penal Code for rape and other relevant provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, he said.

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena MLA Pratap Sarnaik demanded the immediate arrest of Narendra Mehta, saying it is a "tragedy" that the BJP, which raises the issue of women's safety in the state, has not taken any action against its leader.

"Law and order issue will arise if such a person (facing rape and harassment charges) roams freely. He should be arrested as soon as possible," Mr Sarnaik said.

The Thane legislator also termed Narendra Mehta as "Marathi-hater" and alleged that he had once questioned Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray's culture.

"I wonder why the BJP did not take strict action against Mehta, it needs to introspect," Mr Sarnaik said.

New Delhi, May 21: As many as 5,609 new COVID-19 cases were reported in India in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases in the country to 1,12,359 according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Out of the total cases, 63,624 are active cases, 45,300 patients have been cured/discharged or have migrated and 3,435 deaths have been reported.

With 39,297 cases in total, Maharashtra remains the worst affected state in the country, followed by Tamil Nadu (13,191 cases), Gujarat (12,537 cases), and Delhi (11,088 cases).

The nationwide lockdown imposed as a precautionary measure to contain the spread of coronavirus has been extended till May 31.
