Bengaluru, Dec 21: The Kaggalipura police in Bengaluru have arrested the marketing manager of a real estate firm for allegedly murdering a 29-year-old deputy manager of a private bank by electrocuting him at a roadside pole in the first week of December.

The accused, Shivabasave Gowda, 26, is a resident of Banashankari. He is married and has two children. He was reportedly attracted to a colleague, who was the fiancé of the victim.

According to the police, the deceased Anil Kumar was the deputy manager at the Kotak Mahindra Bank branch on M.G. Road. He was also a resident of Banashankari. Four months ago, he had got engaged to the woman who was a colleague of Gowda.

Police said that Gowda got enraged on learning about the engagement. He took Anil’s phone number from the woman’s mobile phone and bought a new SIM card exclusively to communicate with Anil.

He called Anil three months ago and introduced himself as Yogesh. He claimed to have met him in the past during an interview. They continued to keep in touch.

On December 4, getting to know that Anil was heading towards Ramanagaram, Gowda called and invited him for dinner. The duo met and had dinner in a restaurant on the outskirts of the city. On their way back, Gowda stopped the bike near a transformer on the pretext of reliving himself. He put on gloves and connected an electric wire to the 400kv transformer. Using the live wire, he electrocuted Anil.

The police recovered the body the next day.

During the course of the investigation, they came to know that Anil had left home to meet his ‘friend Yogi’. After verifying details of Anil’s call record, they zeroed in on Gowda.
