Real estate scam: Actress-turned scamster Disha caught after two years

Bengaluru, Nov 26: Actor-turned-realty scamster Disha Choudhary, who remained elusive for over two years, was arrested on Monday. Thirty-five warrants and 10 summonses were issued against her.

One of the masterminds of the multi-crore realty scam allegedly perpetrated by Dreamz Infra GK Pvt Ltd, Disha was arrested by CID officials in Mumbai, where she was living with her two children. She is the wife of kingpin Sachin Naik.

Disha had changed her name to evade arrest, CID sources said. Known to lead a lavish lifesytle, she lived in a tiny apartment in Mumbai when sleuths traced her. CID officials said Disha was arrested with Sachin in 2017, but got bail in two weeks. She fled Bengaluru, lived in various cities, including abroad.

Dreamz Infra India Ltd collected money from thousands of homebuyers for its Gruha Kalyan scheme. But they didn’t get the flats or their money back.

Two COVID-19 positive patients in Karnataka fully recovered

Bengaluru, Mar 20: Two COVID-19 positive patients in Karnataka have fully recovered and will be discharged today.

Karnataka Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar said: "Two COVID-19 positive patients have completely recovered and will be discharged tomorrow. They will be kept under home quarantine for 14 days as a precautionary measure."

The number of COVID-19 positive patients in Karnataka stands at 14 as of today.

"The total number of positive cases of COVID19 in India stands at 173, including 25 foreigners. Four deaths (1 each) have occurred in Delhi, Karnataka, Punjab and Maharashtra," said the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in a statement.

According to official data provided by the Ministry of Health, as many as 15 people infected with the virus have been discharged after receiving treatment.

Yenepoya Hospital becomes first private hospital in DK to get nod for COVID-19 tests

Mangaluru, May 10: The Yenepoya Medical College Hospital at Deralakatte here has become the first private hospital in Dakshina Kannada district to get coronavirus (COVID-19) testing approval.

The laboratory at the hospital has received the nod from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) to conduct tests for COVID-19, a release here said.

Dakshina Kannada will now have two centres for coronavirus tests, the first one being the district Wenlock hospital, the designated hospital for Covid-19.

ICMR has approved 33 testing centres in the state of which 21 are government hospitals and 12 are private hospitals.

Abandoned bag at Mangaluru Airport triggers panic

Mangaluru, Jan 20: A suspicious unattended laptop bag with the suspicion of containing “something harmful” was found abandoned at the Mangaluru International Airport on Monday.

The bag was found kept in the rest area meant for the passengers outside the airport. According to reports, two men came in auto and left the bag near the ticket counter, which is near the VIP vehicles parking area.

The bag, which was lying unattended near the entrance of the airport was removed from the spot by the airport security personnel at 8.45 am.

Bomb detection squad personnel has rushed to the spot and shifted the bag to a safe zone, said Mangaluru Commissioner of Police P S Harsha.
