Reconsider removing Tipu Sultan from textbooks: BJP MP to Karnataka govt

Mysuru, Nov 1: Former union minister and senior Karnataka BJP vice-president and Lok Sabha member V Srinivas Prasad on Friday strongly condemned the state government's proposal to remove lessons on Tipu Sultan from school textbooks.

Speaking to the media here, Mr Parsad said the state was under stress due to severe floods and the government must bring more pressure on the Centre to release more funds rather than taking up the Tipu Sultan issue.

"The BJP is already labeled as a communal party, so Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa should have taken a careful decision on Tipu issue," he further said.

Mangaluru, Mar 23: Indian Coast Guard (ICG) on Monday announced to enhance surveillance along the coastline of Karnataka to strengthen security.

It has tasked its hovercraft in New Mangalore, and high-speed patrol vessels and interceptor boats along the coastline for ensuring foolproof security of the uninhabited islands, Deputy Inspector General S B Venkatesh, Commander, Coast Guard, Karnataka, said in a release today.

The amphibious hovercraft have been deployed for near to coast patrol, to facilitate smooth execution of search and rescue operations and security cover over land and riverine route. Please log in to get detailed story.

Mangaluru, Jan 24: Urwa Police have arrested a 27-year-old youth on charges of chain snatching and recovered around 300 grams of stolen gold chains worth Rs 12 lakhs from him, the police said on Friday.

According to the police, the arrested, Vinay Prasad alias Vinod Jogi, a resident of Badaga Ulipady was allegedly involved in more than 10 cases of chain snatching.

Madikeri, Mar 29: In an alarming situation in neighbouring Kerala State and instances of inter-state migration of Coronavirus suspects, the authorities on Sunday sealed both Dakshina Kannada and Kodagu borders, prohibiting entry of people from Kerala into Karnataka.

Dakshina Kannada had sealed its borders after repeated instances of people misusing ambulance services to travel to Mangalore. Villagers along with the police hauled mud on to the roads that were used as alternate routes.

The road that connects the two States, which people from east Kasargod used to enter into Karnataka, were closed at Mulleria by dumping mud on the road.
