Reconsider removing Tipu Sultan from textbooks: BJP MP to Karnataka govt

Mysuru, Nov 1: Former union minister and senior Karnataka BJP vice-president and Lok Sabha member V Srinivas Prasad on Friday strongly condemned the state government's proposal to remove lessons on Tipu Sultan from school textbooks.

Speaking to the media here, Mr Parsad said the state was under stress due to severe floods and the government must bring more pressure on the Centre to release more funds rather than taking up the Tipu Sultan issue.

"The BJP is already labeled as a communal party, so Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa should have taken a careful decision on Tipu issue," he further said.

Byndoor, Jul 16: Byndoor Police Station in Kundapur taluk of Udupi District, has been sealed for the second time in a month, after three personnel including an ASI were tested positive for Covid-19 on Thursday.

All the three including a lady Home Guard have been admitted to the designated Covid Hospital.

Last month the Station was sealed after staff had tested positive.

Mangaluru, Apr 25: Heavy rain lashed Mangaluru and surrounding areas on Saturday, providing the people respite from the sweltering heat, which they have been experiencing for the last few weeks. 

The rain, which started around 10.30 pm on Friday, lashed heavily after 2 am. Later, there was drizzle for sometime before it stopped raining around 8 am. 

People were seen walking towards the market to purchase essential commodities holding an umbrella and wearing a raincoat.

Mandya, Aug 1: In a terrific incident, a college student has stabbed his own mother to death in Karnataka’s Mandya town over a trivial issue. The police have managed to nab the accused. 

According to police, the boy was irked by his mother rebuking him for staying out with his friends late in the night.

On Wednesday (July 29), she scolded him for not listening to her advice, following which he stabbed her to death, the official said. 

The student was arrested on July 30. He reportedly confessed to the crime. 

A police officer said that the woman was upset over her son frequently spending time with his friends till late in the night.
