Reconsider removing Tipu Sultan from textbooks: BJP MP to Karnataka govt

Mysuru, Nov 1: Former union minister and senior Karnataka BJP vice-president and Lok Sabha member V Srinivas Prasad on Friday strongly condemned the state government's proposal to remove lessons on Tipu Sultan from school textbooks.

Speaking to the media here, Mr Parsad said the state was under stress due to severe floods and the government must bring more pressure on the Centre to release more funds rather than taking up the Tipu Sultan issue.

"The BJP is already labeled as a communal party, so Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa should have taken a careful decision on Tipu issue," he further said.

Mangaluru, Mar 25 : Taking into account surge of COVID-19  cases in neighbouring districts, Dakshina Kannada district administration has decided to suspend retail sales at Central Market in Mangaluru and public will not be allowed to purchase at Central Market from Thursday.

Proper arrangements have been made for the public to buy from nearby grocery shops from 6 am till 12 noon. 
However strict social distancing has to be ensured by the vendors failing which action will be taken, warned Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh. The public are advised to follow social distancing measures.

Bengaluru, Feb 13: Veteran freedom fighter and advisor to the Karnataka Government in Education Reforms HS Doreswamy on Thursday has recommended Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa to make it mandatory for MLA and MLCs to adopt at least three govt Schools in their respective constituencies.

Mr Doreswamy appealed to the Chief Minister to implement the suggestion in the State budget for 2020-21 to be presented by him on March 5.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr Doreswamy, on the higher education sector, stressed the need to appoint highly qualified candidates for Vice Chancellor posts. There is no dearth of talent and eligibility in the State and authorities concerned must ensure that the right person is appointed by taking extreme care".

Mysuru, Aug 1: A young covid-19 warrior and activist has become the latest victim of novel coronavirus in Karnataka’s Mysuru district. 

The deceased is Khaleel ur Rahman (27), who was the office manager at Farooqia College of Pharmacy. 

During Covid-19 lockdown, he was working as a volunteer and was part of Mysuru City Corporation team also which is involved in the covid related work. 

Khaleel was also part of the team formed by IAS officer P Manivannan, who led the crucial Covid-19 relief efforts across Karnataka. He was also an activist of Social Democratic Party of India.

During the lockdown, he was distributing groceries and other necessary things among poor and migrants in Mysuru. 

Recently he fell ill and admitted to a private hospital. He was suffering from breathing difficulties. He breathed his last in the hospital without responding to any treatment.
