Red alert issued in DK as heavy rains continue to lash; holiday for schools, colleges on July 20

Mangaluru, Jul 19: The coastal region of Karnataka including Dakshina Kannada district continued to receive heavy rains on today. The Indian Meteorological Department has forecasted heavy to very heavy rains in the region.

Private weather forecasting agency Skymet stated that the region will receive excessive rainfall till July 22 as a result of a low pressure area over North Bay of Bengal. This means heavy rains for the next 3-4 days which might lead to flooding.

The city of Mangaluru and other regions in Dakshina Kannada are likely to experience flooding rains over this weekend and authorities have already issued red alert in this coastal district. Fishermen have been asked to stay out of the sea due to strong winds. Sea condition has been predicted to be rough to very rough due to the present climate.

The district administration has also declared holiday for all schools and colleges across Dakshina Kannada tomorrow (Saturday, July 20), and urged the parents and school authorities to take care of their children.

Southwest mons0on has been disappointing so far. The month of June ended with deficiency of rainfall and the same trend continued in the first half of July too. However, heavy rains lashed parts of coastal Karnataka yesterday inundating low-lying areas. The Mangaluru Central Railway station premises came under knee-deep water due to heavy rain.

Bengaluru, Mar 24: Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, who had earlier announced that Indira canteen will supply free meals to the poor and BPL card holders, on Tuesday announced that Indira Canteens will be remain closed as there is fear of spread of the coronavirus as people assemble in large number.

On Monday, he had announced that Indira Canteens would provide food free of cost for the benefit of daily wage workers and poor people in the wake of a complete lockdown.

Asked about the alternative the government would provide, he said, "Closure of canteens is needed to avoid the rush near the canteen as it may lead to problems.

Mangaluru, Feb 6: A 40-day old child with cardiac condition was shifted to Bengaluru’s Jayadev Hospital from Father Muller Hospital in Mangaluru through a green corridor traffic.

Hospital sources said the ambulance carrying the 40-day old patient was provided Green Corridor by police department throughout the way.

Saiful Azhman, who is just 40-days old has been diagnosed with heart-related ailment. Doctors at FMMC hospital provided basic treatment to Saiful and advised that he be taken to Jayadeva hospital for advanced treatment.

Mangaluru, Apr 20: The Dakshina Kannada district administration had declared certain areas in the district as containment zones after COVID-19 positive cases were detected from there.

A seal down has been declared in these zones, completely banning all movement of the people including leaving their houses.

In Ajjavara, Sullia taluk a one-kilometre containment zone has been set up on April 19.

The zone stretches from Ankotimar Road and includes Forest agriculture land and the residences of Savera and Achar.
