Relative rapes 20-yr-old woman; his 3 friends rape her minor sister

Savadatti (Belagavi dist), Mar 14: A 20-year-old married woman was raped by her relative, while her minor sister was raped by three of his friends at Yaragatti in the taluk on Saturday night.

rapesThe woman - a resident of K?Shivapura village - had recently come to Yaragatti, her native village. She had been to a medical store along with her 14-year-old sister to buy medicines for her ailing daughter, at around 8.30 am.

Padeppa Fakirappa Bannur, 19, of Soppadla in the taluk, the relative, arrived there and offered to drop the sisters home and they agreed. But Bannur took them to a farmhouse and assaulted the woman sexually. Four of his friends - Bheerappa Ningappa Kitadal, 21, of Sattigeri, Mallappa Arjun Junjuri, 23, of Yaragatti, and Bheerappa Rudrappa Adakalagundi, 20, and Maruti Arjun Bhavihal, 20 - got wind of this and they arrived at the farmhouse.

Kitadal is said to have encouraged the other three to rape the minor girl and they indulged in the act. The sisters returned home and informed their family members about the incident.

The parents filed a complaint in this regard with the Murgod police. Medical tests were conducted on the sisters at the Belagavi district hospital. The police are on the lookout for the suspects who are absconding.

Bengaluru, May 28: The Karnataka government has done away with previously mandatory COVID-19 testing for asymptomatic international travellers. 

The development comes a day after the government issued a circular, which allowed placing of international travellers into home quarantine if they had completed seven days of institutional quarantine.

A circular signed by Jawaid Akhtar, Additional Chief Secretary to the State Government, dated May 27, says that any “person who has completed seven days of institutional quarantine and is asymptomatic can be permitted for home quarantine with a COVID-19 test (RT-PCR), subject to undergoing a medical check-up.”

This check-up equates to thermal screening (with a required temperature of under 37.5C or 99.5F and pulse oximetry of under 94%). 

The circular added that all elderly people, over the age of 60, and those with comorbidities (such as Diabetes mellitus, hypertension, asthma, heart ailment, renal disease...etc) are “required to be clinically evaluated diligently prior to shifting them for quarantine.”

On Wednesday, Pankaj Pandey, Commissioner, the Department of Health and Family Welfare said that these new guidelines were based on recommendations from the COVID Task Force. A member of the COVID Task Force said that new strategies had been formulated based on the latest findings on how the SARS-Cov-2 virus affects people.

Bengaluru, Apr 22: With seven more people tested positive for COVID-19, the total number of cases now stands at 425 as of date in Karnataka, informed state health department on Wednesday.

Out of the total COVID-19 cases, 17 people have died and 129 have been discharged.
These seven new cases came to light in the last 24 hours.

With 1383 more cases and 50 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, India's total number of positive COVID-19 cases stands at 19,984, said the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Wednesday.

Bengaluru, May 6: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Wednesday urged migrant workers to stay back as construction activities have resumed and also announced a Rs 1,610 crores COVID-19 financial package for the state.

The Chief Minister also said that close to one lakh persons, including migrant workers and students, among others, have so far been sent back to their home towns from Karnataka.

"We have sent around one lakh people in 3,500 buses and trains, back to their home towns. I have also appealed to migrant workers to stay as the construction work has resumed now," the Chief Minister said at a press conference on Wednesday.

"A package of Rs 1,610 crores will be released as COVID-19 financial relief. One time compensation of Rs 5,000 will be given to 2,30,000 barbers and 7,75,000 drivers," he added.

During the course of the press conference, the Chief Minister also announced compensation for floriculturists in the state.
