Bengaluru, Jan 25: A reported statement by Dinesh Amin Mattu, media adviser to the Chief Minister, that it had become common of late to arrest “some persons” on Republic Day and Independence Day, has ruffled the feathers of the Bharatiya Janata Party which has urged Siddaramaiah to clarify whether he would subscribe to such a view.

AminMattuMaintaining that Mr. Mattu was subscribing to his ideology instead of the interests of the State, BJP spokesperson S. Suresh Kumar has said that he should not continue as media adviser to the Chief Minister if he wanted to propagate his “ideology”

Similarly, BJP State president Pralhad Joshi has alleged that Mr. Mattu’s statement had indicated that the State government was trying to give a communal colour to the arrest of six persons on the charge of having terrorist links.

Mr. Joshi told presspersons in Hubballi that Mr. Mattu’s remarks would demoralise the police.

Meanwhile when contacted by The Hindu , Mr. Mattu clarified that he had never said that the arrests of terror suspects on the eve of Republic Day or Independence Day were being made to create a fear psychosis to help nurture Hindu fundamentalism. He added that he had not even questioned the arrests and had only expressed concern over the trend of not following up on the arrests.

On the other statement that Muslim fundamentalism had arisen due to the fear of insecurity and Hindu fundamentalism due to “arrogance”, he said that he was trying to emphasise the need to analyse the reasons for the growth of fundamentalism in a bid to take effective measures to curb them.

Bengaluru, May 29: Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa and BJP State President Nalin Kumar Kateel will resolve any differences of opinion among party leaders in Karnataka, according to Minister of State for Railways Suresh Angadi

If anybody has any issues, they should get them resolved by talking with Yediyurappa and Kateel. Internal matters, if any, should not be discussed in public, he said.

Angadi told reporters here on Friday that differences of opinion among party leaders have not come to his notice. A section of party leaders assembling for dinner should not be constituted as a meeting of dissidents. BJP has internal democracy and any differences of opinion if exist will be resolved at the party forum.

He added that if MLA Umesh Katti has any issues regarding cabinet berth or regarding assurances given to him by Yediyurappa during the Lok Sabha elections, he should talk with the chief minister.

Everyone in politics has aspirations and it's natural. Those aspiring for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections should talk with the chief minister or the state president, he said.

Ramesh Katti was former MP and there was nothing wrong in him being aspirant for Rajya Sabha elections, he said.

Angadi said, "Party is supreme. We shall work for the victory of party candidates irrespective of who they were".

A state cabinet meeting was held on Thursday. Many of the MLAs too had been to Bengaluru for constituency-related works. As they had been meeting after a long time, all gathered for dinner, he expressed.

New Delhi, Feb 24: India has deeply appreciated the Senegal government's decision to extradite fugitive gangster Ravi Poojary to India, official sources said on Sunday.

Facilitation of transit provided by the Government of France has also been acknowledged, they said.

Ravi Prakash Poojary, accused of committing a number of serious offences including murder and extortion in multiple jurisdictions, was extradited from Senegal on Saturday.

The probe agencies have persistently pursued the case for his extradition with the authorities in Senegal. India had made a request with Senegal for his extradition in early 2019, sources said.

Poojary was associated with gangster Chhota Rajan, but he also worked for fugitive underworld don Dawood Ibrahim.
