Repoll: Repeat campaign underway in Kasaragod LS constituency

Kasaragod, May 17: With the Election Commission ordering repolling in polling booths where bogus voting has been confirmed, a repeat campaign has been underway with door-to-door visits and to canvass to secure maximum votes. 

Voters in three booths in Kasaragod and one in Kannur Lok Sabha constituencies will recast their votes on May 19.

Repolling has been ordered in booth nos. 69 and 70 of Putjiyangadi Jam-a-et High school and booth no. 19 in Pilathara AUP school under the Kallyasery Assembly constituency of the Kasaragod Lok Sabha constituency.

The other booth where re-polling will be held is booth no. 166 of Pamburuthi Mappila AUP School in Thaliparamba Assembly constituency under the Kannur Lok Sabha constituency.

The public campaign will conclude this evening. The authorities said all arrangements for the polling have been completed. 

Re-polling will be held from morning 0700 hours to 1800 hours. 

As the ink mark of the April 23 election is still visible on the index finger, the ink, marking casting of vote, will be put on the middle finger of left hand this time, sources said.

Bengaluru, Jun 11: Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Thursday allowed the Opposition Congress party's newly elected state president DK Shivakumar to have a formal swearing-in function.

He told media, “I have spoken to Shivakumar and informed him to conduct the event after taking precautionary measures against the spread of the COVID-19 disease”.

The move came after the state government received flak from the main Opposition Congress leaders, for refusing to permit the newly elected State Congress president to have a formal swearing-in function take reigns from his predecessor Dinesh Gundu Rao.

Bengaluru, May 28: In a first of its kind initiative, the Karnataka government will soon launch 'Statewide Health Register', a project to maintain the health database of all its citizens, announced Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar on Wednesday.

The project will kick start from Chikkaballapura and Dakshina Kannada districts.

"With a vision to efficiently deliver quality healthcare to every citizen, Karnataka will soon have a Statewide Health Register. The pilot project will be implemented in Chikkaballapura & Dakshina Kannada dist shortly and completed in 3-4 months. @CMofKarnataka @PMOIndia @JPNadda," tweeted the Minister.

The government plans to get the data collected with the help of a team of Primary Health Centre (PHC) officials, revenue officials, Education Department staff and ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist) workers.

"They will visit each household and collect health data of all the members of the family. This will not just help the government to provide better health care facilities, but also build an efficient resource allocation, management and better implementation of various citizen-centric schemes in the state," the minister added.

Sudhakar also said that the COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated the necessity of having a robust, real-time public health system.

"Very few countries in the world have taken such an initiative. It is a futuristic project which will include 50 per cent partnership of private hospitals. It would be a cumbersome process but if we do this and digitise it, the data could be used for multiple purposes. The data would help us prioritise healthcare based on geography, demography, and other targeted measures. It would also help medical professionals and scientists for innumerable studies," he said.

"We have consulted all specialists from 18 different departments, and taken their advice into account," said the minister.

Mangaluru, Aug 2: Former Minister and Mangaluru City MLA U T Khader has gone into self-quarantine after former MLC Ivan D’Souza tested positive for coronavirus. 

Mr D’Souza had met Mr Khader and many other Congress leaders a day before receiving his throat swab test results. 

Mr Khader announced on twitter: “Have gone into self-quarantine with immediate effect after receiving the news about #Covid_19 positive test of Former MLC Ivan D’Souza & his wife Dr Kavitha. Being COVID Incharge DK District taskforce committee, I am one among Ivan's primary contact.”

“I am going to discharge my duties from home for the next few days. You can reach out over phone at any point of time. I appeal to all my colleagues and friends who may have come in contact with us in the last few days to get tested for #Covid_19” he tweeted.
