Revenue inspector among 3 arrested with unaccounted cash

Belagavi, May 22: Three people, including a Revenue Inspector and two middlemen, were arrested by Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths who also recovered Rs 1.86 lakhs unaccounted cash in the office at Bailhongal, about 50 km from here.

According to ACB Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Amarnath Reddy last evening a raid was conducted under Prevention of Corruption Act at Revenue Inspector Office, Bailhongal and Revenue Inspector Ibrahim Khondusab Khondunaik, middlemen Dilawar Khadarsab Nadaf and Dadapeer were arrested.

It was alleged that the arrested Revenue Inspector used to collect money through the arrested two middlemen from the public for showing official favor and not issuing official receipt for the money collected.

Puttur, Jul 7: A woman died after a wall of compound collapsed on her in Dakshina Kannada district on Tuesday, July 7. 

The victim was identified as Vasanti.

The wall got weakened due to heavy rain at Golithottu area in Puttur. Her body was sent to the post-mortem.

According to the police, the incident took place around 12.30pm when Vasanti was working in the backyard of her house.

Belagavi, Jun 25: Union Minister of State for Railways Suresh Angadi on Wednesday said that coronavirus was created to "scare us" and to create tensions on the border, in an apparent reference to China.

He said that everyone should learn to live with the virus and follow all norms needed to combat the disease.

"We all know who created the coronavirus. It was created to scare us and to create tensions on the border, we know who did it. We have to learn to live with the coronavirus. We do not need to be scared of it. We must maintain social distancing and follow all the sanitation norms," Angadi told reporters here.

Karnataka on Wednesday reported 397 new COVID-19 positive cases, taking the total count in the state to 10,118.

According to the state health department, the state's death toll has reached 164 after 14 fatalities were reported. As many as 6,151 people have been discharged so far.

New Delhi, Feb 20: The Supreme Court on Thursday stayed the non-bailable warrants issued against the state Director General of Police (DGP) and Inspector General of Police (IGP) by the Karnataka High Court.

A bench of Chief Justice SA Bobde stayed the non-bailable warrants while hearing a plea filed by the Karnataka government.

Earlier today, the apex court had agreed to hear the matter today itself after Solicitor General Tushar Mehta mentioned the matter before it.

Tushar Mehta had pointed that Home Secretary has been asked by the High Court to execute the non-bailable warrants and said that this order is "unusual".

Karnataka High Court had earlier issued non-bailable warrants against the top cops in a case.
